It depends. My answer is: Yes and No, they are censoring. I call it censorship 2.0.
Youtube turns off the money tab on particular videos to discourage the creator continue making videos about that.

Facebook, Microsoft, Twitter and YouTube (hereinafter “the IT Companies”) are in together with the EU against violence or hatred directed against a group of persons or a member of such a group defined by reference to race, colour, religion, descent or national or ethnic origin.

In the code of conduct they refer to the COUNCIL FRAMEWORK DECISION 2008/913/JHA of 28 November 2008, that Racism and xenophobia are direct violations of the principles of liberty, democracy, respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms and the rule of law, principles upon which the European Union is founded and which are common to the Member States.

The European Union’s Definition of “hate speech” and “incitement to violence” is so vague that it could include virtually anything deemed politically incorrect by European authorities, including criticism of mass migration, Islam or even the EU itself.>

But there is more fishy going on. When I talk about Hillary Clinton, Turkey Coup or Hitler they demonetize the content in question. Than you have people like Paul Watson or Alex Jones insulting religious groups or slandering about celebrities private live and that is tolerated. Somewhere Youtube is scared of bad publicity because the big boys can speak about that or there is something else going on.

I am experiencing this, so yes, i feel that in my views and in my wallet.

I mean, I don't claim to know the future but they pretty much screwed over their biggest channel with whats they are doing. Can you guess who Im talking about (Spoiler its Pewdiepie) Cause his channel is completely based off of at least 3-4 of the descriptions they gave for what is not "advertiser friendly." that with the backlash they have been getting from this. I can see them taking a 180 and going "It was jokes guys ha...haha..." But we'll see.

I know YouTube isn't the same, but network channels (NBC, CBS, FOX, ABC, etc...) have certain rules their content creators have to abide by. This too is probably due to advertisers. YouTube has evolved over time and this is only a natural progression of things. Right? Sure it sucks because people are feeling censored but it's their business. YouTube wouldn't exist without advertising.

YouTube will have to change the way advertisers opt-in or out of certain content because if they don't, creators will stop creating and YouTube's revenue will drop. Creators are the reason they can even sell ads - without them, what would YouTube be?

As a family friendly channel this hasn't effected me and I hope it doesn't.

I feel it's going to be the usual double-standard they go with. Since Pewds is a huge channel and their number 1 guy, he'll get a free pass and won't be mentioned or made an example of... it's the rest of us that have to watch the F-bombs from now on.

Didn't hear about if before so thanks for making me aware of it!
I think the definition of "Censorship" gets stretched quite a lot by it.
Because you are still free to upload all kinds of videos, just that you won't be able to make money with them.
Probably Google feels like a lot of potential customers hesitate investing into YouTube advertisement because of it, so I can understand that they do that,
I just hope they won't be like crazy strict on it. In the end it won't really matter for me, since my content is very advertisement friendly :)
