I would think at least over 100k for that. If you go to the socialblade website and look up youtube stats majority of people with 100k+ subs make an average of 1k a month off of youtube.

The channels I know with around 100k subs make average 3k per month according to socialblade. Not sure what channel you're looking at...
 
I'm not sure at what point people would consider my channel a 'big' channel but I have been working at it for several years.

I'm curious as to how you could get so many views - is the Hot Wheels community really that big?

It's not just Hot Wheels, I'm a toy car channel. HW is the largest toy car producer but there are many brands of toy cars and I set up my channel so that I can do them all.
 
It's gonna be different for every channel, I managed to grow my channel from nothing up to 19K subs within just over a year.
