Anyone else annoyed with sponsors?

I generally don't mind, especially if it's at the end of the video, like most audible sponsors are. But every now and then you get people who dedicate the first minute or two just to talk about some TV show that sponsored them or something, and it's just unnecessary.

For some channels, ad revenue isn't nearly enough to make it worth the while to do videos. Merchandise and sponsorships are other revenue streams.

I do understand you point though. For the TWIT network podcasts, Audible is a sponsor. The shows will talk about the sponsor for 3-5 minutes. I don't know if that is a requirement of the sponsor but that is far too much time.

On that note, I did my first referral-based video today. I directed viewers to my website if they want to find out how to purchase the item and I was up front in saying that I would get a referral bonus. To be clear, the referral link is not on YouTube. Only a link to the webpage with the offer and the referral link is on my website.

Since you're curious, 3,500 views so far on the video only resulted in an additional 200 visits to my website. I had 2 sales resulting in $4.89 commission. Since I didn't run an ad on the video, it is not resulting in a net gain yet but maybe viewers are thinking about buying the item and didn't do so yet.

What really annoys me is they say it like they're the only ones doing it or like its new, I don't know why they can't just put an icon in the corner or something and keep it moving

Does anybody know if these people really get paid or do they just get a commission if somebody signs up with their referral code?

I have nothing wrong with them making money from it, but I just find it a bit annoying when a lot of videos I watch someone is talking about going to audible.com/____ to get a free e-book, or going to netflix.com/____ to get a free month, or anything else like that. Some people do it in nearly every single video.

And it seems like majority of people who I do watch are doing it, so I hear it quite a lot. It's almost like watching the same commercial/ad over and over and over again lol.

Joey is just a moneywhore anyways.
Doing it once a month in the end of the video is enough.

But honestly, if you had the chance and got good money from it - you would do it, i promise.

Meh not really. I can basically do it with the Fullscreen Gorilla campaigns. All I got to do is talk about something for 30 seconds in the beginning of my video and get a higher CPM for that video. I did 2 of them, and that was in the beginning of my partnership. I didn't like doing it, as it didn't feel right for me.

I don't see how Joey is a moneywhore, but okay.

I think for some YouTubers it is fine. For example, The Shaft. They do a section at the beginning of their podcast where they read out all the sponsors of the show. You know to expect it, and you can actually sponsor it yourself and get a message read it.

However, when they drop it in the middle of the video, that is a bit of a stupid move in my opinion. I want it to be at the same place every time so I can skip it if I would like to.

I wish they wouldn't drop it in so casually as if they aren't actually being sponsored by them. I would feel better if they kept it real. Other than that I don't really mind. Audible and Netflix are amazing lol.

Totally agree. I'd have a less of a problem with it if they made it clear it's a product endorsement / sponsorship. They should make it into at least a review video and pretend to be objective.

The ones where they don't make it clear and think they are being subtle about it are the most annoying and also most dishonest IMHO. I can't remember on what channel I saw it, but it was a big vlogger's channel and the guy was making his breakfast and he kept making a big deal of this "amazing" energy drink he had every morning. He kept repeating its name, showing the box to the camera and saying how great he felt afterwards...... I looked in the comments, and no-one mentioned it so a lot of people were taken in by it but it was so blatant it was ridiculous.

I see nothing wrong with it honestly. You need to pay the bills some how. If all I needed to do was talk about a product for a few seconds that I personally believed in for a bunch of extra money then heck yeah I'd do it. Especially if it was my only source of income. I guess sometimes it can get to the point of being greedy though but most of the time people never watch 100% of a video anyways. Except me depending on who I'm watching and if it's entertaining.
