Loving YTtalk
You know the drill guys, if it's a thread in this subforum, it's a review request! I make video game inspired music packaged neatly in Youtube video form, and I would truly appreciate it if you would check out my channel in the link below and give me your honest impressions (but, like, HONEST. Super honest. Blunt 'n' nasty type honest) but not before first considering the following remarks:

1. The release schedule. I know, the recommendation is usually between once a day to once a week depending on your capabilities and keeping it consistent. Well the thing is, music kinda doesn't care about schedules and can be very temperamental about them, not to mention that I'm still neck deep in college academics, which is another thing that couldn't give a flying one about your schedule :laugh2: So my releases are doomed to be both inconsistent and far apart, at least for the time being.

2. Miscellaneous format thingies (wow, what a subtitle :eeks: ). Some of the recommended things like intros and channel trailers I've decided against for personal/artistic reasons, things like end cards and stuff I'm still trying to figure out how to fit in. Also the channel icon and banner are kinda placeholders, but it might be a long while before I change them so I guess they're fair game for criticism...

With those things in mind, I'd love to hear what you guys think! What you like, what you dislike, how do you feel about the music, artwork, concept etc. I understand the channel might not be everyone's cup of tea, but don't hesitate to speak your mind, even if you don't think you're the target audience. There is a lot of value in differing perspectives, and I hope you'll feel encouraged to share yours even if you feel it wouldn't be all that useful.

Big thanks to everyone who checks out the channel, and to everyone on the forums for being so cool (Except you. Yes, YOU! :p ) You guys rock! :winkphones:

hey man i honestly like your content and your banner and logo is pretty clean so I dropped a sub brother:)

Dude this is excellent. Well I only listened to storm crack and I was quite surprised. There is little when something amazes me in the channel and you sure are part of the little, now onto the review.

First of Channel art man... channel... art! If I was a viewer that clicked on one of your mediocre songs and was like, "This guy might have potential, let me go and have a look at his other stuff", your channel art pops up I would click away faster, probably spilling the hot coffee onto my lap while doing so. If you don't have time for it save the YTTalk cash monies and get someone to do it for you.

I would stick with the avatar it looks awesome. Get channel art that goes with it. Maybe more appealing thumbnails would do the trick as well.

Setup your YouTube channel to display your latest uploads. It looks horrible if I am new there and only shows one video on your channel.

Dam man you are making it hard to find errors in your work.

OK last thing I would have changed. I would have rather left the lyrics in the subtitles but I think this is personal preference I might be wrong about it. If you decide to keep it change the font maybe ?

The plus points: The video was well edited in with your music... my word. Love the music it self. Although your voice did not fit in 100% with it. Was close but it felt like two separate entities. If you somehow can mash them together more to seem like one, then we have a winner. You should definitely do this more and invest time. It was amazing.

Usually people on here criticize the video and content. Since you are focusing on music mainly it means that you need to get someone that creates music to criticize your music on its own.

I hope you continue and also best of luck, may your channel grow forever in your favor

You have awesome content and catchy thunmbnail. You should make more videos so people see that it's worth subscribe to your channel

Woah, that's a great reply man, thanks! Thought I'd address some of the things you've mentioned, so it doesn't seem I'm just saying that, I really like your feedback!

Firstly the channel art, now I'm not sure exactly what you meant (I'm noob enough not to know what the phrase "channel art" constitutes) but since you mentioned you like the avatar I'm assuming it means everything else, the banner, the thumbnails and stuff. That's something I've been meaning to look into for a while. It's really a placeholder at this point and something I put together real quick just to have something on there, possibly with pretty colors :D Thing is, I kinda have this grand, sweeping idea about the channel's artwork in general (it kinda involves the dude on the avatar) but I severely lack both the talent and time to make it happen. And being a Serbian college student, money is an abstract concept as well :D

I really like you mentioning YTtalk cash. I'm kinda new here and still learning the ropes, so it totally slipped my mind that that was a thing :D I will certainly keep that in mind and try to get an artist on board that way, since I agree the channel art is a pressing issue.

Good call on the latest uploads as well, totally slipped my mind, will get on it ASAP

The lyrics thing is in fact a personal choice, I found that people do appreciate them being in the video if done well, saves the time to look them up every few seconds. And it follows one of Youtube's core principles: the less clicks, the better! :) As for the font, I don't know if you're familiar with the games but it's basically meant to replicate the game's font. This being a fan made font it does get kinda... wonky and unintelligible, so I definitely regret that choice. But I do plan to keep the lyrics in the vids, I will make sure they look better though, thanks for that!

As for the music, don't feel unqualified to criticize it just 'cause you're not a musician (it would be really weird if only musicians were allowed to discuss music :D ), the best feedback usually comes from laymen! And I think your voice not fitting in comment is really eye opening. Now I'm sorry for prodding, but do you mind telling me if you felt it didn't fit in stylistically or sonically? Like, do you think it sounds out of place like screaming metal would sound in a lullaby, or like the vocals and the instruments being separate, as if they were glued on top of each other? Like I'm sorry for asking you something outside your area of expertise, but this would really help me know where to look for the problem and what to improve upon, I'd really appreciate that extra feedback :)

Overall, some really good stuff, I wholeheartedly appreciate you taking the time to check out my channel and compose this critique! It may seem like nothing special, but this really helps a ton! So thanks for that, you're officially on my "people who rock" list :winkphones:[DOUBLEPOST=1479404942,1479404630][/DOUBLEPOST]

Thank you very much, Catalin! As I mentioned, with me writing and performing every single note on the songs, producing, mixing, mastering and then putting together the videos, making a video takes up A LOT of time. Not to mention I'm juggling college on top of all that. So more videos are definitely on the way, there will be more content, it's just going to take some time.

Very much appreciate you taking the time to check out the channel, as well as everyone else on this thread! :cheerbeer:

I like you even more. Usually I get a thank you sir and then they are off hopefully implementing what I am saying. I ment the YouTube Banner (As my english sucks so I just went and pressed on the edit button on the banner and YouTube called it "Channel art") to fit your avatar. This is my first year working my self and was a student last year. Do not worry I understand cash and student life. Had to live off rice and 2 min noodles for a week once because I bought a game I really wanted. I won't give you greece on the subtitles again. I guess the sonically one would be the pick. The vocals and instruments do not fit together, Like glued on top of the each other.

Hahaha, so you know the pain :D Nah, the subtitle comment was good, I just have to do a better job of making them more convenient, and less getting in the way. And if the vocals thing is sonical, that means it's probably a mixing issue, which does help me out tremendously! Thank you again for taking the time to do this :)
