1M views = how much $

A lot of people believe $1 per 1000 views is about average these days, that equates to $1000 per a million views. I've seen three different YouTubers show their actual analytics pages and they were all earning around $1 per a 1000 views. However, I have reason to believe that a lot of YouTube channels earn a lot more than this. One reason being when Markiplier's earnings were revealed by hackers. I'm not going to state a figure, but it was a LOT more than $1 per 1000 views.

Something that a lot of people don't seem to consider is that longer videos will generally earn more ad revenue than shorter ones. If you have a 30 second video for instance, YouTube is hardly going to slap a lot of 30 second unskippable ads in front of it.

Also, I suspect there is an advantage being a USA channel as there is more advertiser competition there on YouTube (I think).

I think $4k is pretty normal. When my video reached 100.000 i got about $100 so that seems right. The most money people make on youtube is from deals and promotions i think, not the regular youtube ads.
Your rate is closer to what mine is, about $1 for a thousand views. I think there are a lot of factors involved though. I have seen one of my videos get a HUGE amount for one day compared to anything else I've ever seen. Some animal rescue site shared the video and it got 10k views in one day and I made something like $107 that day for some reason. After that it went down to normal at the $1 per thousand rate. I've never had another pay rate like that since then, but I'm guessing certain factors get you more revenue including who shares the video.

This is a really interesting discussion. It would be great if someone who gets million+ views could talk about this (within the rules, of course) because I've heard varying numbers too. If you search on YouTube, you almost always hear "1 million=$1000" but I personally know a YouTuber who gets millions of views and he said something higher. He's definitely not the braggart/exaggerating kind, although he could be off.

That's the rate I thought was average. That's closer to me, I WISH I could make $4,000 for a million views.[DOUBLEPOST=1453994869,1453994831][/DOUBLEPOST]
That's WAY more than I make for a million views...
Interesting...so I guess this is when it get's useful to have a network to get high CPM[DOUBLEPOST=1453996113][/DOUBLEPOST]

It could have been that day the CPM was high since everyday is a new rate for those without a network.

Everyone gets a different amount it's based on all sorts of aspects of your channel so no one is getting the exact same amount for the exact same amount of views, so someone lower could get $1000 for 1 million views and someone's channel who is way more popular could get like $5000 for a million views or more. So $4000 is actually pretty good.

For sure makes sense, I'm sure the number of subscribers also plays a major role into that youtube formula. If only youtube can share that formula with us so we know what to aim for lol

I was with Fullscreen when I got the huge pay jump. I was also with FS for 3 years and the pay was basically $1 for thousand views before they get their cut. Now that I'm not partnered with Fullscreen anymore I make more since they aren't taking a cut. The ads and CPM are exactly the same as when I was with them so I think it's BS when they say they will get you better ads.

Not sure how many of you are familiar with the youtuber SUPERWOMAN but recently she donated all the video proceeds to a cause she was promoting. The video had 1M and she ended up donating $4k. I mean if I made that money that would be amazing, but for some reason it didn't sound like a lot of money I thought youtubers made more than that. I understand maybe he network takes a percentage off but I still felt like they made more....

what are your thoughts?
But if she makes 30 videos a month, and all of them get 1M+ you can multiply 4k with 30, and suddenly she earns quite a bit :)

Completely depends on CPM and the percentage of views that gets monetized.
CPM can range from 1$ - 10$ per 1000 monetized views and usually around 20-50% of the views are monetized views.
So, it's anywhere between $200 and $5000. Typically around $1000.
