PewDiePie kicked off from Disney/Maker Studios

From what I understand this is the way PewDiePie is ... he doesn't care if people consider it anti-whatever, he just does it because it is fun. And he is not anti-whatever either. But the newspapers needed a story to write, if it was a regular guy it would be no problem. But it was PewDiePie and he gave them one hell of a story to feast on...

Another thing is Disney doing for the big money, trying to get foothold on youtube and realizing YT life isn't a fairy tale - this is just priceless imo.

On the one hand it was a pretty stupid joke, I didn't really feel comfortable with it at the time.

But on the other, Pewdiepie clearly is not a Nazi or anything- he did not make a racist joke about Jewish stereotypes or anything- the punch line of the joke is absurdity of him being anti-Semitic, rather than the Jewish people themselves.

Whether this is a good enough excuse or not... I still think it was stupid because it does have the potential to upset and offend and also to normalise Nazi-rhetoric which is clearly not what the world needs. It's also not necessary, the risk of offending people outweighs the comedy potential.

There is also the issue of mainstream click bait media doing shoddy sensational journalism in which events are taken deliberately out of context to make things more shocking. Its not exactly unusual but it is still depressing. If you do something wrong or the internet turns against you for some reason, truth and reasoning gets thrown out the window and it becomes ok to just attack that person. It ruins people's lives and distorts everything into a big mess where you have no idea what is really going on.

Fair enough Disney didn't want the bad press, but hopefully this whole thing won't spiral out of control.

Just goes to show that you have to be careful what you post about....I just hope he doesn't get too much backlash, and learns his lesson :/

I`m a bit on the fence about this, as on one hand when I saw the video in question I chuckled (though realizing it was pushing the envelope, it was meant as a joke), but on the other hand I despised the video in which Pewdiepie crucified Ryan Toys channel on completely bogus premises and he didn`t even apoligize once he got exposed on the DeFranco show

If anything, maybe this will serve as a lesson to diminish his God complex

Pewdiepie is a comedian

From the article:

"In one of the controversial videos, Mr Kjellberg paid two Indians through a crowd-sourcing website to hold up a sign which read "Death to all Jews"."

Please explain the joke. What part of "Death to all Jews" is funny to you?

Him saying he wasn't serious is such a copout. Kind of like prank channels who say "It's just a prank, bro" when they get called out.

Apparently because of Nazi references and anti-Semitic imagery. Here is the whole article:

To be honest I am not so surprised that something like this happened but I am curious about your thoughts on this subject?
I saw a little something of this. I thinks its silly only cause pewds said all of it in fun and sarcastically, but i also understand why they did. They cant people who represent their company saying stuff like that soo.. eh idk hell be fine either way.

I guess you never watched the video. I THOUGHT IT WAS A FUNNY VIDEO. I guess you don't watch south park at all.

And by the way I watched the video when it first came out. I'm not a sensationalist band wagoner. If you haven't been following along pewdiepies last couple videos for the last couple a weeks you are not in on the joke.

If you want to retreat back to your safespace and continue to discuss a snip from 1 video. Its fine with me but just remember that you are saying thats ok for gamegrumps to be racist towards the irish and thats ok. Hows that for the double standards.

You sound like those prank channels who say "It's just a prank, bro" when they get called out.

Can`t believe I`m kinda defending Pewdiepie, but the thing was supposed to be funny because it`s so outrageous that you did not expect those guys would end up writing the thing on the sign and dancing on top of that. The scene is so surreal that you can`t help but laugh at it.

This being said, it was naive of him not thinking of the consequences being that he is the most famous youtuber and that he has ties with Disney.

edit: atrocious spelling :)

I'm sure he knows the type of content that is frowned upon when it comes to his sponsors, and in this case he really didn't care, so I don't think he minds. He most likely has his hand in many business endeavors, and while Disney is huge, I don't think he necessarily wants to change his image to please them.

If you don't let creators be themselves, their content will suffer. Some people just can't take a joke.

See you get it man.
You are cool.
Disney messed up in my opinion.
This idea of controlling a creator has over stayed it's welcome. It's complete and utter cancer and doesn't help creators want to make new content. So now disney has a new stigma before someone will join them.

Do I care about freedom of speech and freedom of expression?

Its not about money but also the values you stand for and whether or not you want to join DISNEY because they will one day come to ypu and make you tone down whatever thing offends them.
