I personally use the USB Rock Band microphone, has a surprisingly amazing quality for only $20. I was skyping with some of my friends and they were pretty impressed with the quality for the price. So if you are looking for a good cheap solution, I recommend the USB Rockband microphone for Xbox 360 :)

I've used the Blue Yeti USB Mic and it works so well for when I record alone or with a group of friends. Would definitely recommend people buy that if they have the money for it. Also, get used to the "Gain" nozzle so you know how much sound the microphone should allow in.

How good is the Kraken 7.1 mic in comparison to the standard apple headphones as my audio recorded from apple earbuds is quite good :)

I am using an old microphone from my dad which he used whichhe was young, you'd say its crap, but suprisingly its not, it just has alot of noise when I record on my own but I simply remove that

I have a Canon Powershot SX510 that I use for recording. The audio quality when I use it is rather decent actually and since I'm poor I will be sticking to it.
I did have a pretty cheap mic I got from amazon ages ago, and while it does an OK job (far from great), my camera does a much better job allows for more dynamic sound. I bought an attachment so I can plug my Canon Powershot into an outlet for power and don't end up wasting away the battery's long-term life when recording.

If I don't want video from the camera when I record I simply render the recorded files into AIFs with Sony Vegas and then edit them in Audacity (noise removal, etc), save into WAV, and then use the WAV for the actual video editing process.

Has anybody else given the Rode Podcaster a go?
I picked it up recently (I wouldn't categorise it as cheap though!) and so far am very happy with it! My previously mic was a Blue Snowball which was also very good!

I used to use the Procaster! Very nice microphone.

honestly some of the cheap ones can provide great audio recording it all depends on how much you are willing to spend as well
if you watch any of my videos like the night we got robbed or and gta one my mate records his voice on a iPhone headset and it sounds amazing so you don't need to go all out
