Have you considered just using Adsense?

I Love YTtalk
Hi there!

My name is Mitch! I'm currently partnered with Fullscreen on one channel, Maker Studios (RPM) on another, and I run adsense on a few smaller channels. Of course when I started my YouTube "career" my goal was to get in with a network. Maker Studios was the dream and I was thrilled beyond belief when I joined RPM!

Fast-forward a few months, I'm not saying I regret going into agreements with these companies but rather I wish I would have weighed my options.

PROS GOING WITH A REPUTABLE NETWORK:

- You can claim video's without proving you own them
* It's not hard to prove you own the copyright, it's also not hard to contact the artist for written permission if you use their music.

- You gain access to promotion/forums
* Promotion is never guaranteed and is very rarely effective with the non-exclusive gaming networks.
* Maker + Fullscreen forums are very inactive and serve very little real purpose if you're a member of YTTalk.

- You gain SEO advantage over non-partners!
* This is not fully true, if you monetize a video you have the same chance to get featured as any networked partner. If you do not monetize/claim your video you are not eligible for featuring as far as i'm aware.

- You gain access to "shows" and "live streaming" immediately!
* This is a huge perk and should be weighed in your decision if it applies.

- You are paid via PayPal monthly!
* This can be considered a perk, and again should be considered if it applies to you.

- You have an extra layer of support!
* I've learnt far more from these forums than I ever could have waiting 4-5 days for a response from support@xxxnetwork.com.

- You gain access to other sources of revenue!
* This is rarely true but I will make one exception for "Fullscreen" as their gorilla campaigns are brilliant and very lucrative for niche markets.

- You place ads at much higher fill rates!
* Most networks will show ads every single possible time they can (overlays every video, trueviews every 7 minutes) whereas Adsense places less (not a overly large difference) advertisements on average.

CONS OF GOING WITH A REPUTABLE NETWORK:

- You lose 40% - 5% of your income off the top.
* Most networks take a cut of 40-20% off your total earnings.

- You are locked in to a set contract.
* I cherish my freedom, even-more-so when it comes to business.

- You cannot see what you make directly from YouTube.
* Maker Studios does offer the ability to see estimated earnings

- You place ads at much higher fill rates!
* There is a "cost" associated with publishing advertising, you will lose (potential) views and subscribers every time an advertisement is played.

I'll add more in the future if people find this helpful,
Everyone (including myself) seemed to want to go with the "best network"
I suggest you at least considering running adsense!

Shoutout to Sparkyn321 who explained all this to me months ago, I wished I had listened to him!

EDIT: I highly recommend Fullscreen & Maker Studios if you so choose to join a network!

Gaming channels simply cannot self-monetise (Minecraft/League of Legends are an exception). Worst case scenario you could be sued for it.

when you say you are locked in to a set contract, not all networks do this, some are different, but I get what you mean, i'd prefer the network as you get additional features such as live broadcasting with wirecast

I don't believe this to be true, I was under the impression that they claim "Fair Use" in the same way the networks do.
Can you correct me if i'm wrong here?

No no fair use doesn't count if you're earning money (unless you're in a network) because the right people aren't earning royalties from it.

Yes, but are you willing to fork over hundreds of dollars for a month for the privilege when you see an increase in viewership due to your hard work?

The only network that does not have a set contract is TGN, and I thought they changed that!
TGN also caps your CPM's at absurdly low amount, I wouldn't suggest them to anyone as i've heard so many complaints.

This is false...
Nothing you stated in this thread is true!!

Fair use has NOTHING to do with earning money, where do you get your information!
You're also stating every network has an agreement with every game publisher, think about this for a moment!!!!! It's false information like this that get's gamers trapped in networks!!!

Ugh, I'm so frustrated right now!
(Not at you personally I may add, just at the amount of misinformation)

For now I am using adsense..I've been approached by Fullscreen and Stylehaul but I'm yet to sign any deal at the moment until I see a deal that I am happy and comfortable with. :D

Pretty much what Frankie said, most games require licenses which networks provide. You can get a copyright strike for posting a video of a game that you do not have a licence for.

I'd rather be with a network; if adsense was so great more YouTubers wouldn't be partnered.
