Growing channel without social media

Is it possible to grow a channel without social media? Or is it a necessity in 2017 to be seen?

I think it is a necessity solely because you can interact with fans and have more exposure on your content.

Social media was a must for my channel after seeing no growth over two months. If your channel is small like mine, I strongly recommend using social media.

I have a friend that started a travel blog more than 3 years ago. Never used any social media to promote her stuff. Has 4500 subscribers today. It's definitely possible. I wouldn't do it personally. Social media has been a huge help to our channel.
