Hmm... I didn't expect that answer for the microphone. Something to try then perhaps. I record all of my videos from approximately 4-8 inches away from the mic. The C01U is a USB mic so you probably still have a mic-in plug on the computer you're recording with. The other way would be to use multiple computers and a record a skype call. If you stream video online on somewhere like Twitch.tv you could have your other commentators viewing the stream and chatting with you via skype. Or you could do it the old fashioned way, with a mixer. $33.99 on musicians friend http://www.behringer.com/ES/Products/MX400.aspx (Normal gaming headsets would need a minijack-1/4inch jack converter)
Trouble with all being in the same room is you kinda have to be far away from the mic otherwise it's a bit crowded. It may also not resolve the issue using headsets because each mic may pick up the audio from the other people in the room, though likely less than the current method. If you try modifying your distance I think you'll find that the closer you get to the microphone, the tighter the sound gets. You can also record at a much lower volume which will kill out some background noise and echo.
Another thing to try though I've not yet gone this route, is to tack up blankets on the walls. You don't have to cover every inch of drywall, but a few places should help deaden the sound a bit.
At the end of the day I wouldn't spend any money until I'd tested the mic out more for distance. I've got a couple of links below of audio quality on youtube of the exact mic you have and it's obviously capable, so it becomes a question of mechanics.
You will likely want to get a pop-filter for talking very close as your S's,F's,P's will sound worse without it. Most music shops will have these for $10-$20 bucks, or you can macgyver it with a pair of women's nylons stretched flat in front about 2 inches from the mic.
On the topic of the youtube channel face lift, boy do I agree with you. I just feel like such a leech asking anyone for free banners or backgrounds. So I've just been waiting until I can drop a hundy or two to get an artist to do up something with a gnome, a motorcycle and a bit of post apocalyptic wreckage. I suppose I should just bite the bullet. The old classic black really doesn't stand out much. lol
