Hey guys, so where exactly does youtube draw the line with music? I've seen a lot of partnered youtubers post videos with copyrighted music in them so I'm a little confused! More specifically, what are the rules with music videos if you do not own the song? Sorry this is a bit lengthy, I'm just considering whether I should post this music video I made or not! (It's to the american one piece rap)

You can only post songs from which you have the rights. Anything else is against the rules.

If you do that it will problebly be taken for copyright. And with copeyrights you can never be partner on youtube.. Only if you delete the video again ofc..

And although I know all the rules of Youtube, I still have more copyrighted music on my channel than Vevo xD

EDIT: but it's wrong. Don't do what I do :P

How do you get away with it?! I really want to post this vid, but I'm too scared of copyright so I probably won't :/

How do I get away with it? xD With getting a few 1000 views per day. People don't really check your videos when you get alot of views that's how they accepted me. I have music of Red Hot Chili Peppers and some other people, when I made videos in the beginning. Now I buy the rights or use rights free music.

IF you live in America you can post the video only without making money of it. Than it's fair use and you can't get a strike or be banned. This was told me by 1 of the Sony music employees.

It's a grey area if you ask me. If you use someone else's music, and youtube picks up on it, chances are they will simply add advertisement to your video, it get's the artist money, and they leave it at that.

Oh ok, thank you!

Fair use ONLY applies to short clips within a work of your own. It only applies if it's parody, critique, etc.

A lot of people are dodging bullets. That's how they get away with it. If the companies that owned all this copyrighted stuff really wanted to be dicks about it, they could strike down a lot of stuff.

Best rule of thumb (especially if you're wanting to make money off it) is to not post anything you think may get you a strike.
