Youtube's rules with music?

Thing is, even if you buy a CD, or an MP3, you don't own the music. You own the physical object (the CD), but not the music. The artist does. You have the right to private use. That's it. You have to either pay the label a fee to redistribute the music, probably another fee to make money off of it... or get them to just let you use it, which a lot of smaller musicians will do. They want their royalties.

Michael Buffer (the Lets get ready to rumble guy) has a copyright on that phrase. If you use it publicly (and I know this for a fact, I work in radio and almost made the mistake of using it), you stand the chance of getting slammed. He has people everywhere. They hear it, call it in, and bam, a fine. lol More than likely won't happen... but it's a chance you're taking, and a heavy fine if caught. Seriously. It's "his" and he wants money for use. I think that's dumb as hell, but hey. He holds the key.

It's all about the money. The artists feel jipped... and they are getting jipped when people use their stuff to make money off it. That's redirected traffic. Away from their product.

Yeah I know, that's why all my DVD covers say "YOU CANNOT SELL THIS DVD OR SHOW IN PUBLIC PLACES"
and it's indeed all about the money. I really have respect for music makers that say use my music I don't care, because people will know it's from me and I get free promotion :D. And if they put copyright on Autotune I think alot of artists have a very big problem.

It is nice when they just allow it. I had read that Psy is allowing people to parody his actual track (Gangnam Style, for those living under a rock) with no issues. DON'T QUOTE ME ON THAT THOUGH. lol I just read that. I haven't looked into it for validity. Yet.

if artist were smart they would allow others to use their music, like Jos said it like free promotion for them.

I know it. Their logic is that if you're listening to it through a third party, you're not listening to it through them them. So they aren't making any money off it.

I mean, it does make sense.

Boohoo, so they can't efford another Hummer or another boat. Let people enjoy making awesome stuff with music and when you don't like people use your music, here is a tip Don't make it.

Well my theory on this is...I will look up a song on YouTube before I download it on iTunes to make sure I like it. I feel most people are like me...you know honest...but then again I know better lol
