YouTubers who try to be FIRST

Super Poster
I didn't see the new Star Wars Rogue One movie in theaters and wanted to see it on bluray at home instead. Immediately after it was released in theaters people jumped on to youtube to make full reviews of the movies. Intro, plot, ending, etc. basically completely spoiling the entire movie.

I pre-ordered the Nintendo Switch on the announcement date. Now everyone + their mother is getting early review copies and unboxing, turning them on showing them off, etc. I hid these videos from my suggested videos and any tweets that have to do with this because I would like to experience those types of things myself for the first time.

Why is it youtuber's mentality to be the FIRST to make videos about a product? Even if it means spoiling it for everyone. I thought there was a special rule of waiting a few weeks to let everyone who wants to see or experience it do so first before talking about it.

What do you guys think?

Because the ones who make the videos first are the ones who will have their videos seen, means they will get more attention and more views.
Plus if you want to be good in a certain niche that has something to do with tech, games and other stuff that has a release date, you should aim to cover them first.
Also I dont see a problem with this. I wanted to play New Pokemon games without having them spoiled. What did I do? I didnt watch the videos that were about new Pokemon games. Simple as that.

Their not doing it spoil anything for you, that's what their channel is about so they create the video about games, movies etc. who ever post first is most likely to get more views. I made album reviews reviewing new albums that were released, I make those videos to inform people about the album that way people will know if they want the album or not, I think same way with other YouTubers their making to spoil it but to inform the viewers. Before I purchased my I phone 7 I looked up reviews to see if I wanted the 7 or the 7 plus and I used that information to compare the two.

Most videos are pretty upfront on if they will contain spoilers but obviously they are topics people want to know about. Everyone wants the latest and greatest information and if you provide it you'll make money and fame.

I agree with Courtney. I personally find those reviews very useful.

Personally I wouldn't watch a movie review because I hate spoilers haha but I tend to check youtube first when I am looking to buy a new product as I want to see if it is worth my time and money to get it and youtubers usually have detailed reviews on the product. I find those kinds of things helpful.

As others have said a lot of people do it as if they are the 1st to make a video on something, obviously they will get all of the views until others have uploaded their videos giving them an edge.

What is seen as spoiling a product to one person is product research to another. You knew about the Switch, pre-ordered it and want to enjoy it like a gift on Christmas, which is super cool. But I saw your post and had to Google what the Nintendo Switch was all about. So to me, those unboxings, reviews, etc. that are spoiling your fun, let me know if it was something I'd want. However, I do agree with you and Okaysimi on the movie review videos. If I see a preview for a movie I think I'd like, I actively avoid YouTube or television reviews of film because I don't want them to spoil the fun of seeing it for the first time!

Why do they do it though? ... Views, excitement, job requirement. But... if Adam Ruins Everything ever starts doing new product reviews, I'll be on board with you 100%!! ...."Adam, why would you ruin this for us?! WHY?!?!"

weirdly enough I tend to watch a lot of reviewers opinions on a movie right after i've personally seen it. I just like to see how my opinion on the movie is similar or not to others.
I never listen to reviews much before watching, since reviews panned 2 movies in 2016 that i eventually watched and absolutely loved to bits!

My main problem with these videos are when spoilers are IN the title or thumbnail. This is horrible. every pokémon was spoiled to me through thumbnails, i didn't even click or watch and I knew probably 12 designs or more that everyone shoved in the thumbnails.

Or even worse, when you forget to unfollow every Pokemon page until the games are out.
"Oh look, Serebii posted something, let me see it."

"Ok now, how do I unsee it :l "

offtopic but yeah, the best thing to do is simply unfollow and not click anything that can somehow be a spoiler.
