YouTubers Selling TV Shows

Riley Rewind is the web series he and Anna produced. I think it will have several episodes. The show RWJ sold to FX is also an auto-biographical sitcom, similar to what Shane sold to NBC.
 
This is in fact something I would like to do. I'd like to build up a large enough audience on YouTube to the point where I can make some of the bigger calls when it came to signing on a show.
 
I think it's really cool to see YouTubers on TV. I don't see it as a bad thing, since it's a good way to get your name out there in the entertainment business.
 
NBC? It will be cancelled after the first season, if it get's that far...but it's nice to see that it is at least possible to get that point if you're a YouTuber. Especially him as I know he's been trying for a while.

I've had tons of offerings for my dog videos lately, not sure why.... I've had to sort through all kinds of weird offers and run it through Fullscreen. If somebody wants to pay me to show my dogs, I'm all for it! I'd be posting the videos anyways, so why not get paid, right?

IF I'd be offered a TV gig I wouldn't take it because, hey, isn't YouTube / online video supposed to be the medium of the future? Big YouTubers doing it, feels a bit like a (temporary) step back to me. They probably reach larger audiences online than they ever could on TV.
 
Will RWJ's show be leeching off everyone else's content like his YT channel?!

Not a TV show, but cinema - Rémi Gaillard has done a full feature film (in French) that is being launched here next week. Trailer:

I'm happy for him to "make it" in the bricks and mortar media world because lots of so-called French TV stars have been stealing his gags, sketches and comedy ideas for years thinking no-one who watches their shows also watch YT videos.
