Youtubers Lying About Their Age

It's to protect them. The thing is, the average 12 year old thinks he / she is a lot maturer than they actually are whereas in reality they are actually still very naive about a lot of things which could potentially lead to problems.

The aspect of people lying about their ages that annoys me more is the people who claim they're over 18 because they want to monetize their videos and then if/when they want to leave the network, they start accusing the network of signing up a minor. Erm, no the network is not at fault if you lie about your age.

I think the only reason there is an age limit is to protect kids from all the horrible people on the internet. I'm 13, which is really quite young and I can very easily accidentally slip personal info. It's not about restricting kids from making videos because they think they can't handle the hate (which they probably can't, because I know I couldn't at that age). It would be cool if they had a feature that let them make videos, but only their G+ friends could see them and there wasn't an option to make it public.

You know, after being on Youtube for a year, this kinda got my attention. Youtube TOS states you must be at least 13 years of age, yet there are some people who explicitly confirm in their videos that they are younger, like around 10-12.

What are your opinions on that? I don't know, but it kinda drives me away from them.

I think was the only one here that actually acknowledges and questions this.... until you came along. Thank God.

I don't even understand why there is an age limit.
Let everyone make videos if they want to.
Because it's the law, believe it or not. The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) requires that websites that collect information about users can't allow those under 13 to sign up. That's why you see so many websites requiring users to be 13 and older.

Yep. That's. What I said earlier except I didn't know the name of the law. But is actually for all websites that you have make an account for. The exception is if the website let's you sign up under 13 you have to provide parent email confirming permission like club penguin for example.

I couldn't care less about what others say or do on their videos. Every single person on this forum has lied at one point or another in their life so it is hard to judge others for doing the same.

I wouldn't watch this. Just because they're kids and it would weird me out. But if they want to have a channel, go for it. They'll look back in a couple of years and cringe.

I also never understood the age limit given that it's so easy to get around and also YouTube is supposed to be a safe place. But I don't understand the lying about your age unless you're some 15 year old who can't watch certain videos so you say you're older. Saying you're younger makes no sense at all to me

I know right? I mean, why can't they let the natural course of stupid take its course instead of making signs like this.

...ok that ones pretty funny :p
OMFG That last one. xD *dies of laughter*

... I am a terrible person and I will be sent to heck.

Anyway, I don't care if YouTubers lie about their age. If they're entertaining in any way, then we cool. We homies, I mean c'mon.

I started my first channel when I was 12, so being against them would kinda make me a hypocrite.
