YouTube Warns Creators They May See Subscriber Count Drops Amid Spam-Account Purge

yup.. I lost 50ish yesterday, and then another 70ish today lol. ^^ I've never bought subscribers, so I do wonder where all these spam accounts come from...it's not like I've been youtubing for a decade, but there still seems to be a lot of spam accounts -- these large sub cleanups seem to happen every year around November/December...

Remember the massive sub for sub let’s help each other out drives after the 1000 subscribers rule for monitization? A friend fell a hair under 1000 and lost that privilege! Though they reached the 1k organically

I've lost around 20 subscribers in total on my second channel that were kind of restored in 2 days and around 800 from my second account which were restored also for around 2 days. So. for me this cleaning was a good event and now I feel more confident in my subscriber numbers. Since you can't control who subscribes to your channel, for sure there are some bot accounts that subscribed to random channels, just to look genuine in YouTube's eyes, so there is nothing to worry about even if your numbers dropped, drastically or not. This was explained by YouTube as well.

I looked and the drop came on 12/15/2018 according to social blade. -8 subscribers. YouTube analytics show -5 on 12/12/2018.

I have someone I follow that I saw a strange increase with and it has now been confirmed he bought subscribers and views. He lost 100 subs overnight and is a smaller YouTuber (for now, he still grows faster than I do). Anyone who is a small YouTuber has no business losing triple digit subscribers unless they used questionable tactics to get their subscriber count (or, on the outside someone trolled them and spent money for them to gain subscribers). Another guy I just checked up on didn't lose any. And rightfully so, he's be real and working hard to make it real. I had no doubt in my mind he bought any of his success.

It doesn't look like I lost any. Or if I did I gained more than I lost. In my opinion getting rid of fake subscribers will be beneficial in the long run.

I lost around 300 subs. Just glad it was a YouTube clean out and not something I said..
Meh
