YouTube "Tip Jar"

Why can't google just find a f*****g way to let the small channels grow a bit more? Seriously, they arr considered "annoying" if they ask for some attention on other videos, but is the only thing left!

Oh great, now on top of begging for likes and subs, we'll have virtual panhandlers asking for change. :giggle:
I'll have no problem asking for people to support my channel. I work tremendously hard on it and believe I often give benefit to my awesome viewers. I don't consider asking to support my channel begging. Especially if not done all the time.

Now if I was standing outside of 711 jiggling a cup asking people for money I would consider that begging. And I am the person that drops coin in on the way out even after I tell myself on the way in I'm not going to. lol

If someone puts in work and they don't hit me over the head every show asking for donations I'll donate to some. Especially smaller channels working hard but just can punch up that viewership.

I wonder what's in this for Google/YouTube. If you work at a Salon you don't have to share your tips with the Salon owner, but this is Google/YouTube so we'll see..

PewDiePie, as an example, is clearly making a s**t-tonne of money off YouTube, and this is going to massively increase his earnings straight off the bat.

I doubt that PewDiePie or any other gamer is going to put out a tip jar if they are already making a lot of ad revenue.[DOUBLEPOST=1404051854,1404051795][/DOUBLEPOST]

I can easily see somebody tipping a buck or two for a recipe that they enjoy.

I agree with this. In fact I think educational / tutorial channels are perfect for the "tip jar" feature. I often get comments thanking me and messages like "If you're ever in <insert country>, let me know and I'll buy you a drink to say thanks..." So I could see a tip jar being a positive thing and nothing to be ashamed of.

I think what's in it for Google/YouTube is that they were losing web traffic when people would watch a video and then go to another page like KickStarter to pay. Now it can all happen on YouTube and people will keep watching videos. It's really something they should have done a long time ago, from a business perspective.

I haven't heard any information as to whether Google is taking a piece of the donations. I did hear a network saying that the network would be taking whatever agreed upon percentage they had under contract with the creator.

That's just another poke in the eye if that is true.

Google takes 21 cents plus 5% of the transaction, which is slightly lower than Patreon.

Yeah I see there doing that alright, could be a good thing and a bad thing can only see it ever working in larger channels favours rather than smallers.

The Young Turks didn't waste any time implementing the feature. I don't know anybody who has their hands palm up anymore often than TYT.
