YouTube, Help Us Small Channels

To be honest youtubes changes are only there to make it harder for small youtubers, they want to get rid of small users and turn youtube into an online TV channel that sells advertising and makes money.
 
As others have said, not only is there no way FOR YouTube to do this, it would DESTROY the site.

The amount of bandwidth and storage necessary for YouTube is outrageous. Realize that each of us little podunk users might be uploading videos that are over a gigabyte. People are whining that YT isn't "helping" us... well what are you doing to help YouTube? Why should the site start to funnel traffic your way? A bunch of us aren't even monetizing our videos, we are essentially leeching insane amounts of storage and as much bandwidth as we can for our own purposes and then complaining that the big names that earn money via millions and millions of ads that businesses pay for are the ones who get all the promotion.

Not only that, but HOW should YouTube do that? There is no way even from a social side to give big promotion to small channels outside of hiring people whose JOB it is to comb through the MILLIONS of channels and try and find ones that they think are good enough. Changing the algorithm would shoot themselves in the foot. By what metric could YouTube assume that a viewer, having just watched a video by some popular YouTuber, would want to check out a video with 10 views? How could their algorithm POSSIBLY know that they won't click out immediately?

Yes, it's frustrating being a new YouTuber when you see other huge names getting constant promotion, but the answer is that this is a business in all directions and the big names are helping YT as much as YT promotes them. You can call it cynical if you want, but the only other option would be to charge YouTubers a monthly fee for their channel.
 
That's jumping way too far. Nobody's asking them or expects them to change the algorithm or anything like that. Something as simple as a mention on the YTCreators Twitter account or something would be nice once in a while. They have done here and there the past couple months but I hope they increase it. Of course only people with high quality content earn their way into a mention like that. It's not impossible, but of course not guaranteed. Just last week or so a guy with 40-something subs got mentioned from an interesting, but different, news comedy video he made. Now had he been tweeted by YouTube it would have been another thing.

No arguing here, but asking YT to hunt through the absolute ocean of tiny channels for good content is just insane. They'd basically need a team of people whose job it is to look at videos by small channels to pick the ones that are worth promoting, and even then I don't think there'd be a feasible way to do so.

YouTube is already giving us something downright incredible, something that ten years ago wasn't even IMAGINABLE. They've given us a huge, global platform to upload videos where anyone can see them, where we can directly communicate with viewers, unlimited storage for them, they never expire or get deleted, and not only is this all free, but WE can make money from it! This would have sounded INSANE back in 2005.

The fact that we're complaining that they're not further going out of their way to help us... I dunno. Doesn't sit well with me.

I'll stick with this guy... Youtube is already very nice to give you a platform to have a chance to shine on. Before 2000, your only chances to do that the quick way were on television on some dumb talent program.

If you don't like their policy of promoting new stars, you are free to build your YT-like platform yourself.[DOUBLEPOST=1424424883,1424424584][/DOUBLEPOST]

Why?... That because Youtube and Google is here for one thing... Money. It business is business, there going to get the money by promoting that big person and they really want the company to check out this big person.

This explain the reason why I want to take my sweet time going to college hopping I can get my own degree so I can have my own job elsewhere instead of working on the Internet. Alternatively, I could always look for a part time job at my hometown if I didn't want to spend my day on college. Either way, I like to take my time going through my day at college and I'm pretty certain that I'm might "Stop" working on Youtube and Twitch at some point( but it won't occur soon). I want to "Stop" my old hobbies because I want to pursuit my own interest without messing up my first project.

You're right, Youtube isn't doing much to help smaller channels.
Everyone had a small channel at one point in time but then they made it big either by hard work or luck or a combination of the two.
If you keep working at it, maybe one day you'll make it big.
 
BTW I know I may have sounded like I was being negative earlier, but I wasn't meaning it like that. The fact is that we're dealing with an amazing opportunity the likes of which has never existed before. EVER. The tools in front of us to create, share, and become even slightly famous for our silly videos are all available FREE of charge. that's AMAZING!

It's like @enzerutomoshibi said up above. Everyone started off with zero subscribers. The upward path may have been easier for some than others (not to push it again, but the Game Theory video on PewDiePie explains it super well), but that's how it works. Is it unfair? I don't think so. Money aside, if the site wants to entertain you, then obviously it's going to pool its promotion around the stuff a lot of people have liked.
