YouTube Full Time

I dont make a living by most standards, but I make just a little under what my friends make working entry level minimum wage jobs. For a kid fresh out of high school its good enough to pay for any expenses I have while still living at home. New games, computer, phone, phone bill, internet bill etc. I think babyteeth nailed it with being original. Thats really the only way to grow on youtube these days. I only started a year ago, but my channel grew due to a few hit videos and putting a lot effort and thought into my work. I was even featured in a commercial for a video game tournament that was played in all cineplex theatres across canada.

I also think that the best way to "make a living" through youtube is not from youtube ads, but from 3rd party sources. Like selling merch, or starting a patreon page (which I have). But you need to have a fanbase before you can start up these things... so just work your way up without worrying about the money, and eventually it will come.

I'm curious if anyone on this forum is making a living full time on Youtube or some form of online video? No other job, just your video content? And if you do, what advice do you have for the aspiring youtubers on this forum?

I would suggest you not worry about that one bit. It is a pipe dream but for a select few people. If you don't make it in a few months (or heck, say a year), you are unlikely to make it ever. You just don't have it. You are missing that "X" factor. Oh, and don't worry. I don't have it either. There is always that small chance that you'll fall into grace, but... it's small... astronomical.

And there really isn't any other advice but to be yourself and see what happens. But, if you stare yourself blind on the numbers you can bet your behind people will pick up on that fact by looking at your videos. Empty, soulless... There is a distinct difference in videos when someone's heart is in it. And by heart I mean passion, passion for the art of creating content.

I don't make a living off YouTube yet, but I am working on it full time (ish).
I'm otherwise unemployed outside of YouTube and so far, I've only made a few dollars (I'm British but keep my adsense in dollar format)... But I seem to be doubling my monthly income on a month by month basis so hopefully by May next year (that's when I'll have been uploading for a whole year), I'll at least be making $5 a month haha :)

You just have to take it steady, rome wasn't built in a day. :)

I don,t know what you need to live on but to make a living on Youtube unless you live with your parents, would need several voids over a million of views
