Yet another quick question...

Yep. Me again.

So my question is this: why is it so many YouTubers ask for likes in their videos?
The way I've always thought about it is that likes are nice, because it shows that people don't hate your video, but views and subscribers are much more valuable. Yet so many people seem to be hung up on the likes. Does this affect your video in some, unknown way?

I believe that when you get more likes your shown higher on the home page cause smallbeans mentioned getting 1 less like than the guy n the front page.

I believe the videos liked by the youtubers you're subscribed to also show up in your my subscription feed page, if you don't have it set to just show uploads only, and in the youtubers' feeds on their channel pages. It's only a single click so even if it doesn't have a ton of benefit, may as well encourage people to do it.

Determine if your video is more liked by people, like on facebook/reddit that when it has more likes the higher result it will have thing slike that lol

A video with 500 views but only 1-2 likes doesn't look very good.
And it's always good to get likes, SEO and all that jazz.

Here's another consideration.

If your viewers have their YT permissions set to share videos that they like or favorite, when they do that, your video shows up in your viewers social networks. Effectively, your viewers are promoting your videos.
