Been thinking about it myself but i'm unsure weather or not it actually works! Has anyone here had experience with advertising if so please elaborate more about it.
I've done adds for merchandise before. I would not advertise a video or my channel though, the return on investment (ROI) would not be worth it.Been thinking about it myself but i'm unsure weather or not it actually works! I honestly I think I get a lot more views from manually advertising my own stuff then I'd likely get for advertising through adwords.Well not for the monetization itself but if you're growing your channel and it helps you build a subscriber base, then it could easily pay for itself in the long run through more sharing, and the views and shares from people they shared to, etc.
I could see that definitely being more effective because you're selectively choosing your audience you are most likely active, but it does take time.[DOUBLEPOST=1431116512,1431116425][/DOUBLEPOST]I honestly I think I get a lot more views from manually advertising my own stuff then I'd likely get for advertising through adwords.
I'm not sure if I'm the best person to share my story but yes I tired AdWords. I've only paid for advertising once so to be honest I was kind of overwhelmed with how to use AdWords and select the right audience. I only paid $5 for this and it advertises on youtube for two weeks. I thought the money would run out right away but for some reason two weeks have gone by and I'be only spent $1.71.
Anyways to give you an idea about the results I got:
- over 10k impressions
- about 144 views
It lets you target specific audiences, interest and even select a specific video to place your ad right before playing.
If you know how to use AdWords well then it could work for you
Oh, absolutely...self promotion is key. But if you have a few spare bucks and want to help yourself along, adwords and even other platforms (Facebook...Bing) can help get eyes to your channel.I honestly I think I get a lot more views from manually advertising my own stuff then I'd likely get for advertising through adwords.
Yes, it can be more effective to promote yourself via other methods, but you can also be very specific with who you are targeting with adwords ads (or FB ads or Bing ads). For example, someone running a tech review blog can target search terms specific to the videos they want people to look at. New video about the Galaxy S6? Target users who are searching for the term 'galaxy s6 review' or even 'Iphone 6 review'. Advertising can get expensive but if you do your homework and drill down on the demographics you will get highly qualified viewers to your video/channel. These people will be very likely to sub.I could see that definitely being more effective because you're selectively choosing your audience you are most likely active, but it does take time.
I have a video that currently has 61k views in the past 48 hours, I didn't pay a penny to get it out there. Previous to that it had around 4k views in a span of 5 months. That's by far the highest amount I've had on one video over a 2 day period so far, but I have had other instances of similar results just from a little bit of detective work and a simple Facebook message. My experience with paid advertising with merchandise has been horrible, I've lost a couple hundred dollars experimenting with it... Funny thing is, my best selling merchandise is also spread through the same method I use for videos for free. I have a feeling that if I tried to make paid ads for my channel, I would have the same results as with merchandise with even less of a return on investment.Oh, absolutely...self promotion is key. Also, to save money up front and only in the interest of building up your subs and likes, you can exclusively target countries other than the US. The ads will be cheaper when they click on them and while you won't get as much per view for your monetized videos, you will be able to increase your subscriber base and views to your videos. Those things will both help those videos get listed in the suggested videos section of other videos.
I really should do an entire post on the merits of advertising. Maybe I'll make a video even.
