Why so many videos about Minecraft on YT?

I've been browsing through the top 100 YouTube gaming channels and what I've seen is that a lot of them post tons of video about Minecraft. Personally I haven't played Minecraft but I know that monetizing gameplay footage from them is allowed on YouTube. So my question is Minecraft really that popular and fun or are they simply creating those videos because you can monetize them?

Any thoughts?
 
Because Minecraft is popular, cheap, and since Mojang allows monetization of its footage, everybody can make a quick buck out of it.
 
I play it allot, in fact it's my top game, I am planning to play it on YouTube because I find it considerably enjoyable to play.

Now for other people? It's hard to know, I actually made more money off Indie Games on my old channel because people are always finding new games on GameJolt and Itch.io and search for let's plays on them, it's actually quite hard to earn big money out of Minecraft due to the large amount of people doing it, but I do think people see it as a way to earn money as you hear allot of articles about successful YouTube Minecrafters on websites.
 
Its actually fun to play if you know what you are doing, I dont care about monetizing stuff on youtube. Dont even know what it means if I am honest.
 
It's fun to play & fun to watch. It's a game that is versatile, creative & interactive. So many different aspects to the game appeal to a wide audience. So much can be added to the game to make it even more fun or sometimes even more serious. Check out BdoubleO's survival of the fittest series which is personally my favourite series ever on YouTube to ever exist. It shows how Minecraft can be fun but at the same time immersive & intense when played with friends or alone.

I am planning to add MC to my channel in the near future but it has nothing to do with ability to monetize. Just because I think it's a game that is incredibly fun, has longevity & has amazingly vast multiplayer options.
 
That's like asking, why are there so many vehicles on the road lol because it makes life easier. For the people that care about $, MC makes life easy, especially the pick up and play factor. Same thing with CoD. MC on PC is okay, but it can get tiring on console.
