Why do subscribers come in waves?

Hi there friends :) I have a question for ya (which you read in the title lol)!
I've noticed recently that subscribers seem to come in waves.
I hit 500 subscribers about a week ago, then over the course of that week I went up like 35 subscribers!
I was of course thinking, "Wow, I hope this continues! This is great traction!"

All good things come to an end unfortunately, and the momentum stopped. But I've noticed this pattern before.
Why do subscribers come in waves? You'll get A BUNCH, and then your channel will almost be dead, maybe even lose a couple of subscribers, before picking up traction again.

So, why? Haha. :)

subscribers are like weather, they come in like clouds, rain like comments, and sometimes the cloud don't even come! so an empty sky! Soon new clouds will come :P

Depends on what video you upload I guess, maybe they like even more this video than your others so in that time you received more subscribers. If you want to look more details, just heads up to Analytics!

Sometimes on my channel i lose subs then i gain alot more, i think it depends on the traffic that goes through your videos.
More people check your channel = bigger chance to gain +1 subscriber :D

This happens to me too. Maybe it has to do with Youtube's algorithm, once you get one subscriber they promote your channel more then you get another and another...unless you made a video that got a lot of views, that's my guess on how it works.

Haha we should ask you the same question! WHY? What are you doing so right that's getting them to come in waves? :D :Blackalien2:

Are the waves coming after you are putting in significant efforts to try and promote your channel? Might not be a bad idea to keep a little journal going (or just check your analytics to start) on what you've been doing and what type of subscriber growth you see around the same time frame.

That happens to me too :P
It's really weird.

But no one seems to stick around, though. Even though we have 700+ subscribers.

We rarely get any comments.
