Why Do people look down at gaming channels?

More goes into content you completely make yourself, JUZZ sayin.
What exactly is content you make yourself? If you make a vlog talking about, say walmart, does that mean you founded the company? If you talk about a movie, did you direct that movie or write the script? It's no different, gamers vs non gamers, only difference is source material.

Couldn't you just edit the audio, and keep going from where you left off.?
Whoa what do you guys make let's plays with? I never felt like investing any money or real effort into mine since it was just a side hobby to the music and comedy so I'd just record the audio with my camera and the video with quicktime screen capture. There's no editing that.[DOUBLEPOST=1399413818,1399413696][/DOUBLEPOST]

Depends on the vlogger or gamer really. Some gamers DO write scripts, and in that case yeah it's not that different. But if you're just pressing play and talking, there's no creative process, more a process of quick improv, or in some cases just saying whatever funny crap pops into your head. Which indeed can be entertaining, but only as entertaining as the person who's doing it is.[DOUBLEPOST=1399414097][/DOUBLEPOST]Oh and also I think by "completely make yourself" he's talking about how the visual aspect is creative as well. You must think of a backdrop for each scene, decide what you want in the shot, decide what outfits/costumes work best. If you're playing a game you know what's gonna be on the screen. The game. And I'm not trying to downplay LP's it's a legitimate form of vlogging I'm just saying I think I know where Rouge is coming from.

Because they are ***** .

Well considering I'm a former gaming channel hater, I feel pretty equipped to answer this. Imagine you're a vlogger, you write scripts, you act, you think of subject matter, you use props, some of us write music and incorporate parodies, you entertain, you put on a show. Now you see channels getting far more views than you doing gaming, you think "Whoa there must be alot going on here! What is this all about??" And then you see someone start playing a video game, and go "Hey guys what's up today I'm playing such and such" and then they proceed to just tell you what they're doing in the game for about 15 minutes. It pisses you off.

You're like "I could play a freaking GAME WTF" And you don't understand the appeal. And you gotta admit, because of the over abundance of this genre, MOST of the gaming channels you come across are not doing anything original, and most are not entertaining to people who don't just want to see the game that's being played.

With that said, having been on this forum I've found gamers I have immense respect for. Those that go the extra mile, edit their videos to be entertaining, have quick wits and are very funny, do montages, think outside the box, and if more vloggers were aware of channels like that, they might not feel this way. On top of that, I've tried my hand at gaming a few times, and I can vouch for the fact that it IS harder than it looks.

However, being both a vlogger and someone who's done gaming, I'm sorry but it's not AS hard as sketches and vlogging and things of that nature. Some gamers will try to insist it is, I'm telling you it's not. It can be more frustrating, sometimes you have a great run of commentary going and then you lose the energy and mess up and have to do the whole thing again, but I'd hardly compare that to the amount of creativity that has to go into making a comedy sketch or an entertaining and funny vlog that makes points while being humorous at the same time.

But lets not also forget that some vloggers turn on a camera and just talk too. No matter what genre it is, there are those that put in the effort, those that don't, those that have natural talent, and those that don't. But over abundance of mediocrity, lack of understanding what truly goes into gaming, and the perception that no creativity is involved, are the main factors that cause the disrespect of gamers.
Well it all depends on the content creator . Let's take a random CoD/Minecraft gamer doing nothing but talking over some Minecraft/CoD footage ( which is really easy to record ) . All he does is to record a few scenes where he kills unlimited enemies or where he's building his house . Pretty easy stuff to do and it takes you maybe 20 minutes to get that footage .
Then you take the video in my signature . It's 4 minutes long . It took me 4 hours to get it done + the post recording commentary ( Mainly because I was super mad while playing that mission so I thought it wasn't appropriate to do live commentary ) . Then add the editing and it took you 5 hours to get done a 4 minutes long video . And I was the first on Youtube to upload this video . I was the first one to complete this game without getting detected once and getting all the loot and s**t . The whole series is something 8 hours long . My steam time counter says I played Thief for 76 hours . And according to r/thief I'm the best Thief player on Youtube/Twitch etc etc . And the video in my signature is 4 minutes long . I'm not gonna say how much time it took me to get done 40-50 minutes long missions . The game was super bugged when it came out and some parts were almost impossible to beat . I found a way around bugs and game imperfections . Behind a good gaming video there is as much time as behind a good Vlog video . And I consider PewDiePie s**t so yeah . That's not a good gaming video .
So the whole "Gamers don't work hard for their content etc etc . I'm a Vlogger I rock because it takes me 15 takes to say "Hello" in front of a camera" argument is pure s**t .
Those who hate on any kind of content are just close minded ***** with a huge e-p***s problem .
There are s****y gamers on Youtube . The worst thing about it is that the shittiest are also the biggests .
But there are s****y Vloggers , Comedians , Beauty Gurus etc etc as well .

I agree Symph, it's just never a good idea to generalize too much. I've said it before, there's good and bad and mediocre at each category but many prefer to think grass is greener on the other side. I don't think any different about a low effort gaming channel than a low effort vlog, both categories can be tough depending on what you're trying to accomplish, or stupid easy if you won't put any effort into it.[DOUBLEPOST=1399414476,1399414234][/DOUBLEPOST]Doing a walk through isn't easy either, takes a lot of attempts just to get it right for yourself. You need the old thief videos in there Patrick! Nice job :thumbsup2:

Did you even read my post? I made the same point you did without the attitude or name calling. I actually said "Some gamers go the extra mile and work really hard on their stuff" the only thing you are adding to is that for some LPers perhaps the time and effort involved is just as much as it is for some vloggers. But I wasn't trying to say the EFFORT can't be the same, the amount of CREATIVITY involved is not going to be the same. But that's a nuance difference, either way I'm not sure why my post was the quote for this little rant.

Thanks for backing me up I think gaming channels and vlogs are on the same level. You gotta think about what your gonna say,you gotta keep going til you get it right. Im working on a video and It took me 20 tries to get the audio how I want it.

peronally i don't get gaming just like how some people don't get art channels or makeup or fashion channels. we cannot like everything.

i don't get it because i mean isn't the point of gaming to play the game and not watch people play? I just think that gaming is too over done. and in my opinion most gaming channels look the same, they have the same games recorded so that is the same image playing on all of the channels making all content look very similar and un original.

im just the type of person who likes to look for originality in videos, i wouldn't say i look down on all gaming channels, but most of them. but thats alright because people do look down at art channels and thats completly fine, not everyone likes art and i understand.

There can be quite a bit creativity in a gaming video too, just in a different way than you expect. Take for example, minecraft, easily the most youtubed game ever. The creation is in the game itself, whatever the YouTuber may have created within the game and is sharing. Of course, again back to the first point, this doesn't necessarily apply to every minecraft video and not every game lends itself well to the creative process, some of them are just games on rails and need little to no thinking from the person playing. And some let your imagination run wild and cause you to come up with lots of different approaches to the same problem. Not trying to create an argument but presenting facts from another viewpoint.[DOUBLEPOST=1399415404,1399415143][/DOUBLEPOST]

People watch gaming videos for many reasons. Some watch it to learn how to accomplish something they want but don't know how. Some enjoy the commentary. Some may feel too alone and wish they had a friend to play these games together, and fill in this gap with videos. Some may try to find out if others are playing this game better than themselves, and if so, how. Unless you go and ask, you'll never know why they do it. The analytics show us that they do.

I'm not calling you names or anything . I did read your post and that's why I quoted you . We said the same thing but I said it from the gamer's prospective . I have to disagree on the creativity . Yes , you are limited by the game but there are no limits to the usage of the footage . There are no limits to the video editing and 3D/4D animated scenes . I know people working on a 10 minutes long montage for 2 months ( And they already have all the footage ) .
Everything you see that's not the player's prospective is animated and renered with the game engine .
It takes skills , creativity and time to produce something like that .
There are no limits if you are talented . It doesn't matter what kind of content you produce .
I know people creating shorts with the game engine .
I made an intro 2-3 years ago using Havoc and it took me several hours just to make it and something like 50 hours to render it .
For the rest I agree but I can't stand people that look down on any kind of content . Mainly if that content is high quality and original .[DOUBLEPOST=1399416005,1399415501][/DOUBLEPOST]

As I said , it took me 76 hours of game time to get that game done perfectly .
When it comes to older Thiefs , well , a lot of people requested it but right now I have S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow Of Chernobyl with some mods to finish , I'm studying the whole Dark Souls lore because I want to start a series on Dark Souls 2 . Also I'm practicing bosses and what not . I'd like to finish it without a single death . I managed to beat 18 bosses without dying . Then one mob pushed me and I fell down and died like a noob . And next month I'll start to produce Dota 2 content for an italian TV program about E-Sports . Other than all this I have a girlfriend , a job , I'll be moving to London this summer and I also like to party with my friends . I don't know if I'll have time to play the older Thief games rofl .
