Why Do people look down at gaming channels?

Okay here it goes I notice alot of vloggers and other youtbers acting like making gaming videos are easy and look down at them. First let me say if you want to be a gaming channel you need expensive gear I know cause I just bought a hauppauge and a blue yeti mic and it was alot of money.Gaming videos can be easy if you are doing a quick commentary but,if you are recording playing with friends or a montage alot of work goes into editing.Alot of work also goes into getting game footage you dont want to bore your audience with dull gameplay. Thanks for reading ;)

I don't look down on anyone's channel, I either watch it or I don't. I can't really speak for anyone but myself, but my guess is that the people who look down on them are sick of just seeing so many gaming channels. Seems like the majority of the newcomers who introduce themselves here are doing gaming channels. It's a pretty competitive field.

Of course, there are also tons of vlogs and beauty channels, does anyone really look down upon on them? Then there's the film-school/indie film Vimeo types who probably look down on all of us YouTubers! Of course, we YouTubers make more money than they do, so they're probably just jealous.:p

They look down on them because in most cases all you have to think of is the game at hand and what you are going to say. With Vloggers and comedy, you need to think of actions, timing, what to say, what to wear, how to look, actual ideas, camera work, lighting....the list goes on. No doubt, there is that bit more creativity involved in other videos besides gaming, maybe more than a bit #HaterzGunnaHate

Well both can have variety of creativity.

From my experience I would say this. Most gaming channels don't do these highly edited montages, they usually commentate game play. As in let's plays and such, pretty easy to edit compared to stuff I do. As for the money thing, I spent $1,000 on my equipment for my prank videos, so its not just like gaming videos are the only expensive genre. Some vloggers I know have tons of cameras and such. (Though I would say if you bought or even made one of your own computers for this, then yes thats pretty hard in my opinion because I know very little about stuff like that).

I think some people just think its easy to be a gaming channel such as pewdiepie because you could literally play lets say Halo 4 campaign and have hours on film, and just edit them into videos, very easy, wouldn't take more then like 2-3 days to have the whole halo 4 campaign series into maybe 15-20 episodes, and there you would have 15-20 days maybe even 30-40 days of upload material.
For my genre I can't do that haha, takes hours just to get a 3 minute video, and I got the risk of doing what I do issue, and it spends hours to edit, because its like a montage I guess you could say.
just my opinion though.

well i personally dont nit pick genre of videos but imma give most of the reasons they probably look down on the gaming community,

#1. Your content in its entirety is as a gamer, just games that you play, be it recorded on your computer or console, meaning you can make millions of the same thing and just put entertaining commentary over it with limited to no edits (Seananners)

#2. Because your content is widely based by itself, all you have to do is be the first to show gameplay of it and it will 100% of the time go viral because the game has a fanbase, not your channel, just the game (CaptainSparkles)

#3. Most games have a replay functionality that pretty much changes the entire aspect of the game, so as long as your funny/stupid/dont understand whats going on and over react to everything, it should entertain most (PewDiePie)

#4. Price wise the gear for games a roughly about 2-3k if your a professional gamer and would like a high processor/graphics card/RAM/core what ever right? The camera quality needed to be a live action content producer alone is about the same in price, not including software for low budget and this also means you cant do wide shots, you cannot do angled zooming, because hey....we cant afford a 50k RED camera, Musician wise, good god, you gotta have a good voice or be good at the instrument, then purchase a good camera, a great mic and last but not least a good mixer...could go into more detail but yea this is in terms of being professional, not hobby wise.

Note* i mentioned a few names above because of their style of content, i would tag more people but why? seems like picking on them, just named common names.

I think it comes from the fact that the creator isn't doing anything he wouldn't be doing anyway if he wasn't recording. He's playing a video game.

The fact that so many gamers just seem to churn out 5-10 videos per week suggests that theres not a lot of work going into each video compared to other types of content.

Well for me personally, I don't see many gaming channels as anything special or unique. It's the same games, with the same style commentary, and same attitude across almost every gaming channel on the market. There's so many gaming channels that it becomes an overwhelming amount of identical content.

Gaming videos don't require much time or effort either. You can easily play a game and commentate for a few hours, and get a few videos out of it. Montages don't require that much editing, as all you're doing it cutting/pasting funny moments and putting them together. For a vlog, I have to think of an idea, what i'm going to say, film the video, edit out a bunch of footage, and keep it entertaining. That can take a few hours for just one 2-4 minute video. Not to mention that vlogging requires a good camera (more expensive than your game recorder), lighting, backgrounds, what you're wearing, attention to what's in frame/in focus, scripts, casts, etc.

There are just way too many gaming channels that are all the same. I don't "look down" on gaming channels, but I wish there was more personality, uniqueness, and creativity in them.

Well considering I'm a former gaming channel hater, I feel pretty equipped to answer this. Imagine you're a vlogger, you write scripts, you act, you think of subject matter, you use props, some of us write music and incorporate parodies, you entertain, you put on a show. Now you see channels getting far more views than you doing gaming, you think "Whoa there must be alot going on here! What is this all about??" And then you see someone start playing a video game, and go "Hey guys what's up today I'm playing such and such" and then they proceed to just tell you what they're doing in the game for about 15 minutes. It pisses you off.

You're like "I could play a freaking GAME WTF" And you don't understand the appeal. And you gotta admit, because of the over abundance of this genre, MOST of the gaming channels you come across are not doing anything original, and most are not entertaining to people who don't just want to see the game that's being played.

With that said, having been on this forum I've found gamers I have immense respect for. Those that go the extra mile, edit their videos to be entertaining, have quick wits and are very funny, do montages, think outside the box, and if more vloggers were aware of channels like that, they might not feel this way. On top of that, I've tried my hand at gaming a few times, and I can vouch for the fact that it IS harder than it looks.

However, being both a vlogger and someone who's done gaming, I'm sorry but it's not AS hard as sketches and vlogging and things of that nature. Some gamers will try to insist it is, I'm telling you it's not. It can be more frustrating, sometimes you have a great run of commentary going and then you lose the energy and mess up and have to do the whole thing again, but I'd hardly compare that to the amount of creativity that has to go into making a comedy sketch or an entertaining and funny vlog that makes points while being humorous at the same time.

But lets not also forget that some vloggers turn on a camera and just talk too. No matter what genre it is, there are those that put in the effort, those that don't, those that have natural talent, and those that don't. But over abundance of mediocrity, lack of understanding what truly goes into gaming, and the perception that no creativity is involved, are the main factors that cause the disrespect of gamers.
