Why do people do sub4sub?

I think for many, it's an ego thing. I get the impression that a lot of younger YouTubers start YouTube because some of their classmates do it and they treat their YouTube subcount in the exact same way as they do their facebook "friends" They just want as many YT "subs" and facebook "friends" as possible to compete with their classmates - They do friend4friend on facebook, and so they do sub4sub on YouTube.

They're not interested in views so much because views are abstract whereas a sub equates to a person, a "fan" - They figure that a large sub count will impress people IRL who aren't familiar with how YouTube works. It's just an ego thing but a complete waste of time.

They seem more important then a 10 sub channel, but the problem is no one watches is and isn't it strange that a guy with 2000 subs has only 2 views a vid, they are just stupid haha
I have legitimately seen a channel with 4K subs, and their most popular video has 300 views. Most of them had less than 50.

I think sub4sub can be good once it turns into networking. If you two sub for each other, then do some collabs, comment on each other's videos and all that, then I see it being a good thing. But it has to get b=past that sub4sub stage

i don't really get the sub4sub thing either... i want someone to subscribe because they are going to view my stuff! also, i don't ever sub to other channels unless it's something i will watch frequently and they have frequent content that i like... kinda like my favorite TV shows or something. also, though, i have seen channels with lots of subs AND views, and the content is just... blah. then, i'm like... who is watching all of this?? lol!

You pretty much said it, to help their sub count and make their channel look good. I'm greatful for all my subs but I'd love more comments and views.

I think it's because a lot of people look for channels with more subs (despite the whether or not the subscribers are interested in the channel's content or not).

Sub4sub on a large scale can inflate your views temporarily but it is a facade as most people will unsubscribe later.

To be blunt as I possibly can about sub4sub is that it's like guys in a d**k measuring contest. Even if you're "bigger" it doesn't matter. It's just something to inflate your ego.

In my opinion, it's just a fast way to satisfy someone's need to receive subscribers as fast as possible. The down side is that people think they are slick and try to unsub once they get the subscriber.
