Why do people do sub4sub?

This is something that I seem to wonder a lot. I did it once about 9 months ago, but all those people have unsubbed. I now realize that it doesn't do anything except inflate your subscriber number. Honestly, if I see a channel that has more subscribers than their most popular video, I immediately click off because I know there is some sub4sub going on. Why do people use sub4sub even if they know that it doesn't help them at all?

I think those who do sub4sub even when they know it wont help them do it because theres always that slight bit of hope just a tiny small fraction of those who sub4sub watch at some point in the future. Its pretty sad to think like that.

Those who dont know believe these people might check their videos out when they see them in their feeds. I see it as an attempt to gain something when you are really struggling but it just doesn't work.

I just think, that for some people, all they care about is sub count and therefore they sub 4 sub. It's not at all useful though, these people aren't subbing because they like your stuff, they're subbing out of obligation and will therefore a) probably not watch your stuff b) end up unsubbing so there's really no point to it

They seem more important then a 10 sub channel, but the problem is no one watches is and isn't it strange that a guy with 2000 subs has only 2 views a vid, they are just stupid haha

I think they do sub4sub to make their channel look more important so that others will look at their channel. A lot of times when I see two videos with the same name and one has 1 million views and the other has 1,000 I normally watch the one with 1 million because I figure if so many people watched it, there must be a reason, it must be really good. Same thing with subs. If you see a channel with 20,000 and one with 20 you might be more inclined to check out the one with 20,000 because they are more likely a "better" channel. I would never want to do that though because they would probably all unsub and they would be inactive. I only have 77 subscribers, but my videos get about 100-200. I rather get more views than have 200 subs and only get 77 views.

Because they probably don't have the patience to grow a bigger channel in a 'normal' way. They just focus on short term growth based on that 1 specific number.

This pretty much sums it up.

I can understand the desire to have those big numbers pop up on your channel, but I never understood it myself, either. I'm super thankful for every subscriber I have, because I know they subscribed to actually watch the content I make. I never want to feel like whatever amount of "success" I have has not been earned.

As others have stated it's a numbers game. Especially when you are young you might be interested in doing a sub4sub just to create the aura of importance. In reality no one is going to bat an eye at your 10 or even 100 subs. As soon as your views go up, and your subscriber count hits 4 digits+ people are going to watch your videos just to be part of a bigger crowd of people. That's why starting out on YouTube is so hard.

And indeed, sub4sub folk do not watch your videos. They are empty subs. Subs with no substance, only there to inflate your ego. Views is what you want, Comments and likes... subs? Nah, who cares about those...
