Why do I get random people adding me as a contact?

I'm a bit confused. Ever so often I will get someone who I dont recognise adding me as a contact on youtube. They never message me so I dont think they want a sub4sub thing which is good....but I dont understand it!

It is in a way a subbing technique, people will do it in the odd chance that you will click on their channel

yea, I get 1 or 2 of those every day....

Its just so random, because they almost never say a word to me....but whatever I guess, I generally dont add them as a contact unless i recognise them

yea thats what i do man just ignore the ones you don't recognize

I never asked to be someone's contact, i just accept the requst, just for the chance they might check me out or i can sometime in the future message them and so the same and tell them something.

I get those a lot especially after I have commented on a popular channel it's a bit annoying...

I often get these requests, I check out their channel and 95% of the time it is music artists trying to promote themselves or it is businesses doing the same. I block them because I don't want to be bothered.
