t i click mark as spam.Yeah, I've gotten quite a few from music guys before.I often get these requests, I check out their channel and 95% of the time it is music artists trying to promote themselves or it is businesses doing the same. I block them because I don't want to be bothered.

Sometimes it's people who want to make contacts. Just saying... For example, I want to get to know a larger YouTuber in cooking. I add them as a contact on my end. I don't see anything wrong with it and have made some nice contacts and a couple of friends that way. Everything isn't about spamming. Contacts don't request anything because you are adding the contact to your own end. If I receive a message saying I've been added as a contact and I don't want to be a contact with that individual, or anything with that person I just delete it. And I'm not talking about messages that say "check out my channel" I'm talking about adding people I admire as contacts via my "address book".
Good point. I don't get that many contact request but that could be because of my niche, I get a couple of random ones now and again and a few cooks here or there. However I think it is getting to the point that if we say "hi" to anyone someone is hollering spam. I think maybe we all are getting a little too jaded. I believe I use it how YouTube intended. However, I completely understand where everyone is coming from. I'm going to have to agree to disagree with you all on this one. There will be plenty of people using it genuinely like yourself, thats a good thing, but you will notice that as you comment on other peoples videos more regularly you start receiving these requests a whole lot more, a lot of the time this is due to them gathering your username from the comments section as a potential person to add as a contact etc
