When a Video Idea isn't Working...

I think it depends on how you view your channel. I've always seen mine as a collection of things I enjoy making and watching, and if people want to watch it they can. So I wouldn't upload anything that I didn't like.
But if you make content more for others than yourself I can see how "what other people think of it" can be something you base your uploads on.
Yeah. I want there to be an educational aspect to my channel. There's a huge need for one like mine on YouTube. I feel like I can really appeal to a lot of people in this niche. It's not really for me, because I already know about the things I want to share with other people.

I think my problem here is that I'm just not very comfortable in front of a camera. In the video I'm not smiling and I don't appear excited about what I'm talking about, even though it's my favorite subject in the world. So I seem very boring. I am trying to figure out how I can film this so that it is not just me talking to a camera for five minutes.

What do you do? I have filmed this video and it's mostly edited at this point but I just don't like it. I don't like where I filmed it, I don't like how I went about the topic... but I don't know how to make it better. It's a video about a current event kind of thing that I am trying to explain my point of view on as a professional in the field. My last videos have been fun to film, edit, and post, and this one is just... meh. I like the subject matter, I am passionate about it, but am not happy with how it is coming out. The video is boring, plain and simple.

What do you do in this situation? Scrap it? Re-film? Push it aside for another time?

I think you should record it all over again. If there are some parts you like in the video keep it and add it to your new version.

I usually refilm about about 95% of my videos that don't work out the first time around because I feel that with enough tweaking and calibrating the final product will come out how I want it. The only time I scrap is when I genuinely feel that this isn't what I want and that's a point where we as creators, need to be honest with ourselves :)

In the case of my "reviews," I'm never prepared for the glory that comes out when I'm using my greenscreen and trying to add some pretty dumb special effects. The half-@$$edness of it is a beautiful thing that I can never adequately plan or prepare for.

I totally agree! I do want to refilm, but I will probably end up pushing it way down the list. I don't know how to make it interesting to others just yet. So that's pretty discouraging.

I've had this so many times LOL makeup is trial and error so I've canned so many vids :p It's just part of the learning curve!
Idk HOW beauty gurus do it... I have fun filming while doing stuff, sitting in front of a camera and talking isn't something I'm comfortable with yet! I definitely need more practice!

haha! well we just do... fail and do again :P I had get used to talking as wel but I got more comfortable when I was getting comments and I actually had the feeling I was talking to someone instead of the cam!

I (unfortunately) have had this happen to a good few of my videos. I think they're fantastic at the time and then I get to the editing phase and it's all wrong. A few that I was ok with got edited and put up on my channel, but for the majority of the time if I don't like something I put it in a folder marked "unused videos" and I either try it again if I really loved the concept or I scrap the idea all together.
I don't believe in posting something that I think is bad, because if I don't like it why would anyone else like it? Especially if I know I can do it better.

It's hard to say what other people will like though. One of the major reasons I don't like scrapping content is because I've seen some horrible stuff get millions of views. I do keep to a standard for my own videos though. None of em are perfect, but if I liked all 200+ of them enough to upload em.
