What's better views or subscribers?

Obviously they tend to go hand in hand, but do you think it's more important to focus on growing subscribers or posting videos that get a ton of views.

Is there any difference between the two strategies - e.g. just post kick a** content.

I'm thinking more specifically about what someone should do to try and get the ball rolling as a new YouTuber.
 
Big views will definitely will bring you subscribers. Subscribers (hopefully active!) will sustain your channel alive when you release content when it's less interesting than major one (it's unavoidable). All in all, views are better, after all it's where it starts, right? :)
 
It's not that black and white. It's not either focus on more views or either focus on growth of subs... If you update videos regularly and the content is good, the number of views will increase and so does the number of subs. Don't let you get fooled by the number of subs. It doesn't say much because you can have a lot of inactive subs. I would focus on making videos you like (and others too) and creating good content and try to get the number of views up that way. Viewers can turn into subscribers, whereas not all subscribers are always viewers.... Make sure you involve your viewers. And be disciplined and patient!
 
Personal opinions:
:smile22: If you're getting significantly more views than subscribers, you probably need to make some changes, but...
:smile22: Keep in mind that some people will "subscribe" to you by bookmarking your channel which (as far as I know) won't show up in your subscriber count. They might also subscribe to your video uploads with a feed reader which, again, I don't think shows up as a subscriber. So keep in mind that your subscriber count isn't a perfect representation of how many people are actively keeping up with your content.
:smile22: It's also important to take other statistics into consideration such as audience retention. Your meta data or promotion skills might be fantastic leading to lots of traffic, but are people actually watching your videos? Or do they get bored easily and leave? This information can be found in the Analytics tab of the Video Creators panel (in case you didn't know). If you need any extra help with that, feel free to ask :)
:smile22: Above and beyond what is written above, I strongly believe that you have to love your own content and be proud of what you post. If you don't like it, how can you expect others to!? And if you ARE proud of it, flaunt it! Rub it in peoples' faces going, "Look at this thing I made!!" (Just don't get annoying with it ;P)
:smile22: And always remember; good things take time! Unless you've already built up some sort of reputation elsewhere, it will take time and effort to build your online video empire. But keep up the hard work, and it WILL pay off :)

Subs are good, but they are not everything. I'm nearing one and a quarter million views with just over 380 subscribers. My channel is too random to really get subs and I'm too lazy to make separate channels. I will most likely hit 1 1/4 million views before I hit 400 subs....
 
I think we had a thread like this recently. But imho views. You won't get subscribers without views. Your videos will get people to subscribe and stick around. If you end up with a lot of subscribers but no views people are going to A: Assume you bought the subscribers and B: Leave your channel without watching anything.
 
Depends on the kind of content that you make. My guitar lessons are made for people who are searching for that particular song. Who knows if they want to learn others songs? So for me, I'd rather have views than subscribers. If you are doing serial content, subscribers are your main goal! So like almost everything, it depends!

I'm gonna take a look at your channel as a fellow guitarist.:dance:
 
I'm cool with both but both make you seem more credible to the outside eye. To get subscribers, you need views, to get more than a couple views, you need subscribers (or at least people who share your videos)
