what software do you guys use

sony vegas is a great app to use, but I start out with windows movie maker, which is the easiest software to use when you are making videos.
 
I use the Adobe Master Collection so.. Premiere, After Effects, photoshop etc :) (all CS6 not CC)

If it wouldn't have so much crashing issues then it surely would be. I have just too many problems regarding crashing and I am surely not the only one, I prefer the way how Sony Vegas works above Adobe Premiere or any other tool though.
 
I started out with Movie Maker (the old one from back in the day, the new one is a lot more watered down, honestly), then moved to Vegas for a long time, then finally made the jump to Adobe Premiere. The transition from Vegas to Premiere is actually not that bad. There are a few places here and there where you'll run into something you get stuck on, but once you get used to the differences, it is ultimately a more robust program and you'll be much happier using it.
