What it means to be a Tuber?

Hey guys, David here. I decided to write this thread because it seems to be a fad that a lot of youtubers, whether they are new or have been around the block, seem to hide what they do from their friends and family. Now, I understand the whole fear of embarrassment deal because that was exactly what I did with my previous channels until one day I decided that it's definitely not the way to go. I believe that in being a content creator, you should be immensely proud with everything you put out, and you should want to share your creations with the world! I don't like the fact that society has made it so that it is not okay to be yourself, and these YouTubers who are afraid to do just that are struggling because their content does not appear to be authentic, because it is not. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing you for being silent about your channel if all is well with you and you are completely content with the sense of anonymity you have on the internet, but if you are a small youtuber who is struggling to get seen, do not be afraid to share your art with the world! Yes it is a bit daunting, and a lot of people do not realize that it takes an awful amount of courage to begin a youtube channel, but those who are closest to you are those most likely to show their support and give you feedback and constructive criticism! Mainly, just be yourself! I state this multiple times in my most recent small youtuber tag, "You can do whatever you want, and don't let anyone tell you different". Any who, sorry about that lil rant. I'm a youtube junkie and I just love seeing people be proud of what they do (: This probably didn't even make sense but if you at least get the jist of it, then hopefully I've done my part to motivate you to get out there and take pride in your work! :D

Best of luck,

David (:

This would apply to me if my parents wouldn't freak out over every little solitary "non christian" thing I did. that's the biggest reason I have trouble promoting on FB, I've done it before not caring, and then have to deal with "IS THIS REALLY HOW YOU WANT TO PRESENT YOURSELF TO THE WORLD??? YOU'RE NOT A TEENAGER NO GIRL IS GONNA WANT A GROWN MAN ACTING SO SILLY BLAH BLAH BLAH YOU USED A CURSE WORD IN YOUR VIDEO?? WHAT WOULD JESUS THINK!!!" etc etc... I'm most certainly not ashamed of anything I do, I just don't wanna deal with that shiz lol. I show ALL my friends my channel though, hell when I finish a video and it's not uploaded I always go searching for someone like @chazzalyn or @Katherinejane001 to bug about watching it over skype lol

I think for many people especially teenagers they fear the criticism and potential bullying taking place at schools when people discover their channels and out of that fear they hide it. I have always been fairly open with my family when it comes to making videos and they have seen quite a few of them, I was a little bothered at first but really there is nothing to fear and its all in your head most of the time. My partner recently shared her channel with her family after a month or so and they regularly watch her videos now and her parents shared it on Facebook with their friends and she has gained a few likes because of it which is better than none at all. It can help your channel especially if these people like seeing you or checking out what you do.

It all depends on the niche too, I cant imagine a ranter who swears like a pirate showing their nan their collection of videos :D

Yea it did take a bit longer with my family just because I didn't like the notion of them seeing everything I did and I felt that it would create creative constraints as well, so I see your point (:

This is true as well. I did experience quite a bit of "bullying" back when I first started and had absolutely no idea how to make quality content or even how to properly work youtube, but now that I am fully back in action and looking fairly professional, I've been receiving nothing but positive feedback from people I didn't even expect to watch my stuff!

I just said 'Oi mum, I'm gonna make some youtube videos where I go around causing s**t' she said 'Ok'

Then I started making videos

This is how it ended up going with my parents too. My mom ended up not really giving a damn about my videos and only really wanted to see my youtube videos which I ended up posting to a seperate channel all together!

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee he lets me see it first :shy2:

To be completely honest.........sometimes I do get embarrassed to show people my Youtube channel. Just because, I believe that the quality really isn't there in my sound, and in the way it looks. I am proud of the songs that I write for the most part.....but I always wish I had better quality. I try to push past that...but it doesn't help when none of my friends on Facebook seem to watch really....sigh.

Nearly everyone I know, knows I do YouTube, including my Mother, Sister, Father, friends. etc. heck even my Grandmother, but I'm not sure if she was listening when my Dad told her. :P
