What is your opinion on ZoominTV?

Gamify

I Love YTtalk
I got an offer the other week from ZoominTV, which I unfortunatly can't accept until late spring due to a contract with a previous network. But I was just asking for your opinion on the network. I will not go into too much detail about the offer but it seems like a good offer compared to other network offers.

What do you think about ZoominTV, would just like to hear the community's opinion before signing anything :D

@Styxie, people keep having misconceptions 'Managed and Affiliate' thing, and spreading utter nonsense about it. Managed channels are usually network owned/operated. The rest are affiliate. TBH, they're making some changes to the monetization process for affiliates. Let's say you upload 10 or so videos and they get monetized (without any problems), then you may get newer videos to be reviewed faster, or won't be reviewed at all. @Gamify, Zoomin.TV is a great network IMO. It's next to Curse, for me. They offer...

  • High CPM.
  • 80% revenue-share.
  • 3 month trial contract, then 1 year term (If you wish to leave within the 3 months, simply give 30 days notice).
  • Dashboard, Support, Music.
  • Standard 'features' that you 'achieve' with a YouTube Network.
Zoomin.TV's requirement is simply 200 daily views.

Apply and see what happens.

I know what managed is, no misinformation here. I'm just saying I would not consider a network useful unless they put me as managed, managed channels tending to not be as common..

It is currently impossible to determine if managed is indeed better than affiliate. This won't be known until the affiliate review timeframes are known. Until then, the managed/affiliate debate is just fear mongering.

It is also worth noting that affiliates have a few benefits. They can't be shut down if their network gets too many strikes. And they benefit from the music licensing YouTube is setting up, which is not available to managed partners unless the managed MCN has the same license agreement.

From where I'm standing, unless the affiliate review is longer than a day, being affiliate is currently the superior offering. But don't let logic get in the way of a good story. ;)

I didn't actually know about affiliate not being shut down if the networks got too many strikes, but as far as I've heard affiliates still don't get instant monetisation. Not a huge problem but a tad annoying..

Oh I agree completely. The way to think about managed is that it's like having one big channel. Each shares in the benefits, but also the consequences. So yeah they've got 20 strikes before they lose the ability to upload, but if there's a large number of managed channels, that could certainly happen in a 3 month period of time. Affiliates don't share in that liability, just as they don't share in the benefit of instant monetization.

That said, my big concern through this whole process is that we don't yet know what the review will be like. If it's like the current Adsense review, then I'm in the same boat as you. If on the other hand, the trust algorythm does work as we're hoping, and YouTube ends up not reviewing very many videos at all from trusted channels who have proven themselves by continually uploading content by the rules, it could be completely meaningless.

Which is what I'm hoping.

Very true, what seems to be happening is that a few large networks are making dedicated "Managed" networks, for example Polaris kicked everyone out (pretty much) and only kept a few, iirc they are now the Managed network. But hey we'll see in a bit what it will be like!

I believe, though hopefully Shane will correct me if I'm wrong, is that every genuine MCN has a managed and affiliate side. The managed was intended for channels they own, and the affiliate was intended for channels they partner. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that nobody at YouTube thought MCN's would put any partners in managed. That was more likely a calculated risk on the networks part, realizing they could pretend they owned these channels as far as YouTube was concerned.

Would be interesting to know! Haven't heard of managed being for network owned channels before.
