I personally use Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) to record files. Normally, this program is used to livestream, but you can also just record to local files. It is pretty damn good quality (plus, it's free!). Not quite sure on its compatibility with macs, however.
 
The best is Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 Screen Capture (personal preference) which is free too and thats a good thing camsita is good too but i dont like it...so i just use Expression Encoder 4 you can edit your videos after making them in the Encoder itself so its pretty nice pice of softwear

Are you able to have multiple audio inputs like DXTory? Or does it just record voice and then computer audio? Is there an option to split each program's audio or is Virtual Audio Cables needed?

Of course you can record multiple audio inputs! Go and try it out for free! It's really good!
 
I use FRAPS for many years and i never have problems with him, also sometimes i use camtasia studio. You can try bandicam etc. ;)

If you don't have the software then no you cannot record the PVR, the CD that comes with the pvr has the drivers and recording software so that you can record the gameplay, if you had the software then you could use bandicam to record the screen on the recording software but that would be pointless since you could just click 'capture'. So no PC capture software doesn't work with hdpvr
