What is a "good" audience retention rate?

mine is 24% I hope it increases but I really don't know how!!

This is going to sound incredibly mean, so try to take it as constructive as I've not watched your material.

A low retention rate means one of two things. Either you have misled people into watching your videos who were looking for something else, or your videos found the right audience but weren't good enough for them to stick around to the end. 24% is not a good retention rate, so I'd have a good long look at my content were I in your shoes.

Barring those who mislead people, retention is almost always a video quality issue. Keeping people entertained throughout is how you keep them from clicking to some other shiny thing on the YouTube page.

Oh god looks like i have the worse audience retention rate mine is 15 to 20% on here but i am not to worried about it..

Even tho i have a low/ bad audience retention rate, i am still getting lots of views, comments and lots of likes on my videos and more importantly i am getting lots of subscribers.

So everyone audience retention rate is not everything on Youtube...

But to be honest it would be great to have as good audience retention rate as some you's lot have on Youtube. :)

So can someone tell me the difference between about 15% to over 40/50% audience retention rate on YouTube please?[DOUBLEPOST=1427925270,1427925244][/DOUBLEPOST]

Why do you agree with me?

That Audience Retention is not everything in youtube because I also get many views and Subscribers :)

For me, background music gave me about a 10% boost. Also, try to cut as much dead time out of your video. Keep things short and flowing. Look at Vlogbrothers videos. Every little bit that can be cut has been cut. There is absolutely no dead time left.

I am a true believer in this concept as well.... people today, especially younger youtube viewers have the shortest attention span and like Harry of All said ^^^^ they have the option to watch something else right there staring them in the face, so if you don't keep their attention on your video window, their eyes will wander and click away

... you must keep that in mind whenever you're editing... Yeah, I do jump cut type comedy on my channel, I cut every unnecessary frame possible.... which I think helps my retention rate. keeps the comedy flowing and the dialog going... Just cause you don't run a quick style comedy channel like me doesn't mean you shouldn't be paying attention to every frame....

I cringe when I'm watching other channels and they have SO much dead time in every cut... makes me want to click away... to me, it makes the video seem less professional
