So its not so much a group, but for another example, the twitter account indie sloth is followed by a lot of indie game devs. If you tweet #gamedev that account will automatically re tweet it.
If you don't have a facebook page or a twitter account for your channel, you're literally shooting yourself in the foot without them to help you get exposed on social media.
While many people view YouTube as the way to make money, it is better to think of your channel identity as your brand. RaceGrooves is my brand. YouTube is just one way to socially interact or provide content for your audience/customers. Other methods are Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus, Instagram, Tumblr, etc.
twitter and facebook r amazing tools to keep in touch with ur subscribers and let them know of ur whereabouts, ur new videos etc. and ofc using them is a great way to help ur channel grow as well.
