If you want photoshop then you could always just get photoshop elements which just has a few less tools but is a lot cheaper,

I make all my thumbnails in Premiere. Used to make em in Photoshop, but I do all the video editing and thumbnail designing just in Premiere.

I use GIMP because it's free.. that's the only reason

I think I want to upgrade to photoshop one day but since I'm a beginner I think I'll do fine with GIMP for the moment... (?)
