What do you answer when someone asks how much you make on Youtube?

PinProject

I Love YTtalk
Everytime I tell people that I have a youtube channel, people manage to somehow indirectly ask or either straight up ask me how much money I make from Youtube...honestly it's none of their business I dont ask them how much their salary is....

how do you answer back??

I mean, I don't earn anything from youtube nor has anyone asked to know if I make any money on youtube, But I think i'd probably respond something like
'Not much' or 'enough' something just super vague and obviously avoiding the question hahaha kind of just to mess with them... I wouldn't want to tell anyone that asked though, even if I did make money from YT....!

For you i guess, less than it costs to make the videos. I would say that. It´s a hobby like playing tennis, and sometimes if you are good in tennis (or youtube) you can win small tournaments and some dollars - just like with your channel.
And if you are a big youtuber who does it for a living ask back - how much do you make as a plumber, Max ?
If Max answers you with a fix number - oh well. Then you have too i guess :)

I tell them what I make. Because it's a common question that a lot of people are curious about nor is it a profession for 99% of folks who do it. Why get bent out of shape from innocent curiosity? lolol

If it's someone I don't like, I blow out the figure. You can see the facial expression change.
If it's someone I like, I tone down the figure. Don't want to make them uncomfortable or lose a friend :)

I have no idea why income earned online has an adverse reaction in people. Say you make $120,000 as an IT professional, and everyone is 'oh cool'. Say you make $50,000 with an online business, and the reaction is way out there. What gives? Do people expect everyone to do everything online for nothing?

I mean I'd be honest about it. I don't do it as a full time profession, more of a hobby. So yeh, I'd be straight up. They're probably thinking about Youtubing (because who isnt these days?) and just want some extra info
