Was YouTube A Bust This Year?

If you are a business you have to invest in what gets you returns. And small YouTubers just do not do that. Heck, they probably COST YouTube money. If you rise to the top yourself you'd want to be pushed just as hard too. Everyone worked hard to get where they are, and the return is YouTube working hard for you if you succeed to create a massive fan base.

And that is the #1 reason why you shouldn't sweat the numbers. They aren't making it hard for smaller YouTubers to get big. You have to understand that you have just as much chance of making it in hollywood as you do on YouTube. Which pretty much means you either got it or you don't. Accept that fact or quit.
I think that's quite a harsh thing to say to a lot of people on this site, especially because that will cross most of their minds. The point I was trying to make was that the original term 'YouTuber' was someone who uploaded content to YouTube, and whilst we are all YouTubers here, the term is more directed at people with a large fanbase. It's like YouTube's just left us behind a bit. They've told us what to do, but aren't actually helping physically. It's like telling and english person the way to get to the moon is by building a rocket, then to only give them the instructions in german. It's just not gonna happen. I feel like YouTube needs to help everyone, and it just doesn't do that right now.

You can feel that all you want, but know that it will not happen. You are on your own unless you have some contacts in the higher echelon of YouTube that actually like your content and help promote your channel. Shoutouts do happen, and they are pretty much the only way a small YouTuber can take off nowadays. There are too many people that all want the same thing, and they all drown each other out with the same rhetoric. I just am. I YouTube on, share my content with whomever wants to see it, leave comments on content I like and that's that. I don't beg for views / subscribers or complain because I don't get any. It is a major pet peeve when people do that, and I will call them out on it. Harsh? It's a harsh truth maybe... One that people just don't seem to get.

Well youtube as a company isn't making as much money as it used to because of people are using ad block increasingly. I saw somewhere that 40% of users use ad block now compared to it used to only be 15% only a few years ago. So youtube is scrambling trying to find other ways to make money I think. Honestly though it is not that hard to make it so people can't use ad block on your website. Just the other day I went to watch a show on The CW website(don't judge me lol) and I forgot I have ad block and it wouldn't let me watch it till I turned it off. Also yes I have ad block but I have it disabled for when I am on youtube, because I know how important it is. I also disable it for websites I use regularly and like so that they still get paid.

I know it's hard, if it wasn't we wouldn't be on this site, lets be honest. But I don't think quitting should be your resort, that's what I thinks a bit harsh. I think people can be successful YouTubers, even now. Bigger YouTubers are slowly leaving or creating less content, because they're going to be the celebrities of the future, I fell like a lot of the smaller YouTubers will take their places eventually, just because bigger YouTubers will upload less. People are always looking for new things and people to watch, I know I am, and so I feel like it's still possible and no matter what happens it always will be, but it's just going to get increasingly more difficult, especially when a big YouTuber hits a billion subscribers (Lets face it, it's gonna happen in the next decade or two). Google literally just needs to stop ad blocker on YouTube. It owns it and it owns Chrome and various other things, so it has the capability to do it. I think YouTube needs to set up an app within YouTube for content creators which will tell them about meet ups, and other YouTubers of a similar genre near them. This will benefit YouTube, as more people will watch their stuff, more people means more people without ad blocker, and there you have it, more money. I just think this concept of youTube Red is a bit ridiculous. It hasn't come to the UK yet, so I haven't seen much, but from what I've heard, I don't think it's going to do creators any good at all.
