Vloggers: What social media tools do you use to engage your audience?

I Love YTtalk
First of all apologies. Never considered myself a fan of vlogging. In my mind it was voyeuristic, creatively vacant and narcissistic...
Time for humble pie.
For about 4 months I've been trying to lose weight, mostly unsuccessful. For the past 2 weeks I've seemed to hit the right combination and my weight is going down. The idea had been permeating in my head that if I'm successful, perhaps I should start a channel not only to share my journey, but to show what I've learned to help other mid-lifers to do the same and help myself by being accountable.
First of all I'm sorry for thinking little of what you do. I am without a doubt a horses' posterior.
So my question for you is what social media do you think would be relevant (and useful) to people 40+?

You could do snapchat. Give out your QR bar code. Do snaps of you recording, setting up, your life, etc... That could really help with the personal aspect, as well as not taking to much time from your day. Just an idea. It is something I have been considering doing.

Not a vlogger but I can tell you basically everything haha twitter, instagram, snapchat, sorta facebook but not really any of those are great

Twitter is really great if you use the proper #'s. I use #Indiedev #indiegame #indiegamer and I get over 400 impressions on one post. Granted I also have 900 followers, but most are not active. Those hashtags get my gaming posts retweeted 3-10 times and then the views really come in. As well as opportunities for game reviews. Find what #'s fit your niche and what is trending.

I'm a vlogger. I currently use Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus (only to post the videos to), Snapchat and Instagram. I guess it's pretty normal for people to have a lot of social media profiles, it certainly doesn't hurt (in my opinion) because you can cater for your whole audience, as not everyone will have Twitter if that's all you have, so to have a variety is good. :)

This is actually pretty relevant to myself as well. We have just started our own channel and are thinking about starting social media profiles for our channel. Are these profiles something people should have from the start? Or should they create them as they build a bigger audience?

I've had them from the start, as that's the best way to grow them. You might gain some subscribers from having them too, if people stumble across them. I definitely think have them from the start and try to interact with people through the social media profiles you have.

from the start because once you get a bigger audience someone might take your name on a different social media and try to impersonate you
