Too 'Over-the-top'?

I like to think I create good quality video reviews, but sometimes I feel as though I'm taking it too far with regards to professionality?

I look at similar videos online, where the content is very 'raw' and the camera is shakey etc, I mean, even some of Engadget's video reviews seem 'raw' and rushed in comparison (or am I blowing my own trumpet here?!).
Some of my work colleagues also comment on how professional my videos are and think I have some kind of recordng studio hidden away somewhere (which unfortunately I not at this point in time - its just a corner of my garage!)

I guess my main question is - am I over-processing my videos? Do users want more 'raw' videos to relate to?
Sometime I just feel Im putting in all the work and similar content creators that do not are getting all the views!! When will I get that lucky break??!!!!
Maybe I should contact Engadget and ask for a job?!!! lol

the more professional the better i would say it will make it more appealing to watch
i just watched one of your videos and its great your doing well dont down scale you quality or the way your doing it always try to improve soon enough you will get your lucky break lol

No, I like it. If I would be looking for this kind of tech videos I'd certainly like videos like you make 'em.
Plus you got 25k subs, you shouldn't be doubting yourself

Can you ever go too "over the top" really? One of the goals on youtube as small youtuber is to make our videos look as professional as possible. We want people that wouldn't glance twice at our channels to compare us to the million+ youtuber and think we're just as good as them. And you have a tech channel, you definitely want to look more professional. No one wants to see 480 px resolution and shaky camera so they get nausea while watching. You're doing fine. Actually, you're too modest. People saying your videos look professional is a super compliment.

Its no-one in this forum, but a few channels in particular that were smaller then mine, but seem to have taken off. Then again they also incorporate vlogs etc, which I do not.


Nevertheless, thanks to everyone for your kind comments. The companies I work with all praise my work, so I guess thats one plus point - Ive made plenty of good contacts and get to feed my gadget addiction!

I hit this wall constantly. There are hundreds and thousands of YouTube gaming channels that put far less time and effort into their videos than I do. I can't speak for how "likable" my content is, but from the objective quality of production standpoint, it's very frustrating to see how little the mass audience seems to care about quality.

You pretty much said it yourself, a lot of it can be luck.

It could be the products you choose that are different to other people, it could be that people like the competitors personality or voice more. There's a million factors that can influence this stuff. "Being too professional" is not one of them.

If those channels are doing well it might be due to other factors. I know a couple guys who do well with tech reviews but they show themselves in the video. The videos are still professional but that is just one added aspect to it. Maybe people are more likely to sub when they feel someone is talking to them and not simply narrating a video. Do you appear in any of your more recent videos (the past couple years)? I only watched a couple and didn't see you.

But the short answer, like everyone else has already said, is that you cannot over-produce a video. The more professional the better. I just think that appearing in the video might help the audience identify with you more.
