To My Fellow Female Youtubers

I hate using the word youtuber, but that's the best generalized word. Anyway I do comedy/sketches for my channel. Or perhaps I am vlogger…..anyyywhooo do you ever get discouraged with let's say the beauty vloggers that get SOO MUCH recognition and subs. And then everyone else (including myself) gets set aside? Like sometimes I think…"it would just be easier if I was a beauty vlogger". Even though I really couldn't because 1. that just isn't me and 2. I have no knowledge of make-up or hair or anything of that nature. Let me know what y'all think!

There will be always topics that are more popular than others, youtube keyword tool is gone now but you can use google adwords to see what keywords are most popular now. Or you can use google trend. To find what keywords are trending now. If you use them in your seo then you will get more views however it is harder to rank on first page of results due to higher competition.

Once you have many subscribers and new quality content on regular basis then your channel might grow from inside, your subs will share/link to you videos attracting new views. But for starters I in my opinion choosing right keywords (Max 3k monthly searchers with low competition) is number 1 priority.

PS. there are many beauty vlogger that don't receive any views and to rank well in that niche is very hard due because the competition is very very big :)

If anything, everyone is at a competition. Some are saturated, some are fierce and some are gentle.

For you, you have some competition with possibly parodies and getting your original blogs and sketches out there. But it is not that bad as per se, Let's Play Gamers which are over saturated and extremely fierce.
You should be fine, just make people laugh. ;)

For me, I'm a musician of mostly originals. People tend to find covers and/or singers and bands first.
And I also focus heavily on fandoms
I hear a few people here and there do fandom based songs, but nothing massively fierce, and as long as fandoms are still alive, I'll be fine :)

I see exactly where you're coming from :/ It is kind of unfortunate how competitive every genre of video is, it definitely can be discouraging at times. But I think once you get the ball rolling and set up a good viewing fanbase, you'll see more success in your videos. At least that's what I hope happens, haha! But hey, regardless, making videos for Youtube still feels rewarding and fun despite the huge competition with other video makers.

BTW! I checked out your channel and videos Katie, and I absolutely love your energy and personality on screen, it's so contagious! Keep it up and I'm sure success will come your way! :up2:;)

Just like everyone above said there will always be some sort of competition and certain type of youtubers will be more successful than others. It depends on what you love yourself. But if it makes you feel any better you're a female! You already got more power than male youtubers. Silly but true even genderwise females are put above males on youtube. You should however continue doing what you love not what seems to be more successful but you don't like. Maybe spice up your current style with something unique. Good luck and keep doing your thing!

I don't think you'd have it easier as a beauty vlogger because there are too many of them. The thing is, we only see the really popular ones and not the (probably) millions of girls who struggle to get noticed. If you search for any beauty related keyword you get pages and pages of results from YouTubers who already have tens of thousands of subs. So there is no way for newbies to get in.
I'd say a girl doing comedy is still some sort of niche so you might actually have a better chance. I guess it just takes time. Keep going!

see i dont believe this to be true. (certainly not in vloggers) the bigger YouTubers are mainly males, a good few of which are hitting 2 million, the only big female that everyone knows is Jenna Marbles and she's been around forever. Its easier for males to gain a following as long as they look nice because teenage girls love a pretty face. Females on YouTube have to work a bit harder to get people to click their videos because they're not male. (this is clearly excluding teenage girls who also likes girls)

Females are a natural attraction to guys and girls. Either its on social media or in person. It always works better for a female you know why? Cuz both genders prefer the feminine side and features. Now look at some most successful male youtubers.. Shane Dawson? Joe Graceffa? Tyler Oakley? Yeah.. My point is, those males who get called gays even if they're not they're more successful because either they look feminine or they like same stuff as girls or they have some specific feminine features or something and they are the ones who tend to be more appealing and successful because of that. I bet Jenna Marbles who studied human psychology knows this very well.

Let's put it simple. If you don't have the face or the body that attracts guys you wont get attention fast. It will take a loooong time. And yes, make up gets a bit more attention because teenager girls look for ways to look "pretty with makeup" to attract the boys attention so that gets more attention. Me being a gaming channel since I don't do let's plays with super short sleeves and show boob (that I barely have) I don't get attention. Actually I been getting more attention from girls that think I am a guy so meeeh. People like to see attractive people or funny.

I feel like this is a whole other discussion, but yes, if you want to break it down to an absolutely generalized, superficial, stereotypical level then:

- For female viewers, the girls need to be pretty (-> "I want to be her") and the boys need to be pretty (-> "I want to be with him")
- For male viewers, the girls need to be pretty and the boys need to be funny

I hope I'm wrong though.
