No problem :) But my intent in this thread was not to agree or disagree but to say be careful with the generalisation "no one cares about ads anymore and it doesn't hurt to turn on monetisation" as that's simply not true.

I get it. Nothing wrong with a difference in opinion!

I would agree with this but to some extent. "Back in the day" when Youtube was young, I'd imagine people would click off videos with ads. But like others have said, it's so normal to see ads these days I suspect what you're potentially losing is quite small now. It's not necessarily seen as being greedy.

People can have different reasons for clicking off when a preroll ad runs. During those 5 seconds they could spot a more interesting looking thumbnail in the related column and bam, they're gone. People's attention span is getting shorter and shorter. Of course we have no idea how many people do click off during ads. But the risk is definitely there.

I think display ads, and skipable ads aren't really a problem. And plus, lots of people have ad blockers so they're not affected. But I think long non skippable ads, and the ads where it cuts in the middle of a ten minute video can lead to someone clicking off :)

I personally don't have a problem with monetizing, and I'll probably do it someday when my channel gets bigger - I just chose not to do it yet, because it's already hard to get someone to watch my vids, and if they even had to watch an ad first I think they'd lose their patience xD

Monetizing isn't wrong even if you get like 50 views or something, even if you make pennies these pennies will still help you go forward i think, it's still up to the uploader

For myself I find it hard to justify to monetize since I have such a small channel. I make my videos purely because I find the practice enjoyable to myself. Would I like people to watch and enjoy my content? Of course! But to monetize now in the hopes of one day going viral seems a chance smaller than winning the lottery. Is it worth it for a channel with an average of less than 10 views a video?

Maybe I will monetize, maybe I won't, I'm still on the fence myself.
