To Hide Subscriber Count Or Not To Hide Subscriber Count?

Hi all,

I tried to both show or hide subscriber count and had mixed results.

For a very small channel low subscriber count might not look as popular or subscriber worthy as a bigger channel with lots of subs. I think people tend to subscribe more to channels with lots of subscribers already. The same can apply to video views. Human nature ... the more the merrier! ;)

What is your experience with showing or hiding subscribers?

well for me it doesn't matter. It's true that people subscribe to channels with more subscribers. But even tho, when someone hides their sub count, you can still theoretically imagine their number of subs by looking at views . For me, always showing.

Not showing sub numbers seems like you are trying to hide something. It's like a restaurant trying to hide their reviews on yelp, or ebayers trying to hide their rating on ebay. Doesn't work. Personally I don't sub to any channel trying to hide their sub numbers, seems like they are up to shady IM practices.

Interesting perspective indeed.

I've seen big big channels with 20 million views + with 100 000+ subscribers hiding their subscribers. Some very popular famous niche youtubers hiding their subscriber count.

I think people will subscribe to a channel if the content is good. So it does not matter whether the subscribers count is hidden or showing.

I have 5 channels and from experimenting with hiding the subscriber count on 1 new channel I gained over 15 subscribers with it hidden in a day. So from this experiment I can see that if people like your content then they will subscribe whether you show or hide your count. Just my opinion and personal experience ;)

If you are concerned with the start you can always do a giveaway to get more people on the counter - unfortunately they are empty numbers.

How many successful channels hid their subscriber count? That alone should sway you from not hiding your own. Thing is, everyone starts small and everyone had to venture through the low-sub days. Make good content and have confidence in your work then you wouldn't have to second guess things as minute as hiding sub count.

Here is an example. Almost 200 million views channel. Famous guy in bodybuilding reporting scene. He is hiding his subscriber count.

For me I don't think it is a good idea to hide subscribers as that means people don't know whether to subscribe or not because you are not showing your public results and subscribers. Being a YouTuber is hard when starting hard but keep going and do what the clock does , move, don't just watch time fly by. Show your subscribers and cherish them because they watch your videos which should make you happy!
