The Real YTTalk...Talk

A key factor in making a channel grow is to brand it, take that brand, and advertising it to death! Haha, jk. Though seriously, you'll need to be innovative and make sure you stick with something you enjoy. Time is something you can't get back, so make the best of it, and make sure you spend it doing something you enjoy! :D

Yes, I agree on the branding but if nobody sees it then what good is a brand? If a tree falls in the woods, does it make a noise?
How do we make a loud enough noise to where it will be heard? Just because you have fun building it does not mean they will come.

Okay, I know I sound depressing and there is warrant for that but that's another topic. The problem is youtube is just so huge that you are a lonely little sproutling in a billion acre forest. Nobody can hear you until you grow and tower over all of the other trees. Whilst growing, so are millions of other little saplings. The growing process takes a very very very long time and it burns people out, they lose motivation and quit.

The key to success is not just one element, you must also fertilize your roots by uploading good quality original sought after content, Adapt to the viewers wants, Stay in tune with the current trends, and first and foremost, create videos that tap into the viewers emotions be it tears or laughter. A person will bond to a person if that person can bring out emotion in the viewer. When a viewer bonds to the person doing the videos, that person will want more because the emotion that was tapped by the person uploading the videos becomes a drug, an addiction to the viewer. When I viewer is left wanting more, that is your fertilizer, you will grow.

It may feel like that, but look at the people who are new and still are growing (Markiplier for example) He was at 100k about 3-5 months ago. It took him like 1 year to do so, and he never networked besides doing collabs for fun. and now he is at 800k and climbing.

Networking is important, but you shouldn't waste your time doing your own networking besides collabs and meetups. You need to focus your time on content. This sounds dumb coming from me (I have 100 subs lol) but It's not actually my advice. Its Wreckless Eating's advice. who is currently at 150k and growing. He doesn't network at all. He makes his content networkable. Thats the only way to get big/be succesful is to have good content. Once you get to a point where people absolutley love your stuff so much they just want to share it with the world. Then you grow.

But going out and making a splash in the water yes is sort of a way to do it (even though you get more pitty subs and views then real ones) But its not as good as making a big ol rope, and tieing a big old rock to that rope and swinging it out into that lake to make a big splash.

do you get what I'm saying?

Oh, of course there is more than just one element to making it become something more. However, I was just touching on a portion that I saw a few people having trouble with and brought it to light. I plan on give more advice with, a lot more detail, down the road.

Do you get what I am saying?

Yes, I get it but first I must say that Markiplier is genetically modified..lol

And yes, I get it. I get the fact that I am going about this all wrong. Who am I kidding, nobody wants to see my stuff as I am presenting it. To be honest, my latest channel (The Mad Tire Show) was a bet. A friend of mine at work who also does youtube made a little bet with me. The bet was to see who can grow their channel the largest in a given amount of time using the dumbest prop we set for each other. I picked a door knob as his prop and he picked a tire for my prop. Well, as of now he is winning with 12K subs compared to my 220 subs. After getting his prop/topic he decided to research "lockpicking" and devoted his new channel to the art of lock picking and it is working for him as he has a following of fellow lock pickers...hahaha! (I'm stupid) but I have learned a lot from watching him grow. I have learned that one must offer something that will keep the viewer wanting more. He has an unlimited amount of lock styles to pic and I have just one tire. I don't leave people wanting more so my tree will not grow, in fact, my tree is turning yellow and shriveling up.

You are going about it all wrong man! Never compare... Ever.

Its like people start building themselves a house and they build themselves up a 1 story house and look at the next door neighbors yacht and go... Why isn't that mine? and break their house down. It's just silly cause some other guy was living next to you with a box and is going WHAT IS HIS DEAL?

You need to look at yourself and say... Why? Really look at your content and see if you would stay long enough before tab searching. (I do it to myself all the time, and I still suck at making videos ha ha) No one is great at video making right off the bat. That's why it takes a year or 2 before you get big. Because you are slowly getting better and better and people start to notice after that first year or so.

Everyone wants to be famous and do this for a living. Those who say otherwise are lying to themselves. But if that's all you want and you aren't having fun, then its a job. And if its just a job you won't put your full effort into it. And if you are putting more effort into getting your videos noticed, then actually making the videos you are missing the point of youtube.

Just have fun with it! Getting big is not a certainty so if you want to succeed, you need to show people how much fun you are having, because then they will want to share in that fun.

If youtube isn't fun for you, do something else! youtube isn't for everyone. Just like baseball, or river rafting isn't for everyone.

But if you absolutely love making videos, love the final product and watching your self doing funny stuff and you love to improve your own videos and watch them improve and seeing people enjoying your stuff with you. Keep on going! Don't get down on yourself because you aren't big yet. Just keep building your stuff up. Noticing you aren't "better then this guy" is a great attitude. The only comparison you should be making is your next video and your last video. Was it better? NO? Then how can you make it better?

Content is key, and having fun and enjoying what you do is even more important.[DOUBLEPOST=1376793128,1376793103][/DOUBLEPOST]Also markiplier's sexy voice does have something to do with his massive growth ha ha

Yes, kidding aside, there is more to making videos than just making videos. There's marketing, regular uploads, replying to comments, etc.

But on your topic of branding, as the channel starts to grow, it is important to consider expanding your 'brand' outside of YouTube. Blogs, e-books and Merch. While the vast majority of people on this board would love to be 'successful', many of the successful people at Vidcon were talking about how costly and time consuming it is to maintain their YouTube channel and they were looking at ways to monetize their 'brand' outside of YouTube.

One thing that is rarely mentioned is to go out and get brand deals on your own. If you do that, you can cut your network out of any of the revenue (if you have that written into your contract) and YouTube doesn't take their usual 45% cut because it's not in the form of a preroll/mid roll/post roll ad. It's a method used quite often by larger youtubers that medium sized channels rarely exploit. It also pays future dividends because that brand becomes your client that will follow you no matter what platform you are on.

Checked out your channels, amazing videos!
