The perfect video length

Usually for lets plays I have a low attention span (idk if that's normal or not) so I will usually only watch a lets play that is about 10-15 minutes long. If it is a lets player I really enjoy I might watch their 1 hour long videos. But I would say since you aren't that big yet that 10-15 minutes is a good length. :D

I'd say to stay around 10 minutes. You can always split it into more parts too if its too long.
True. Thanks for you advice.[DOUBLEPOST=1370093216,1370093164][/DOUBLEPOST]

I'm the same way xD Even for ones I really enjoy, I usually find myself opening other tabs while having their longer videos play in the background xD

Hey, guys. I'm a let's player on youtube and I tend to record in sessions of about 2 hours for one game. I then try to cut those videos down to several 15-20 minute videos, but sometimes I just can't get the editing to fit around that time. So, what I'm asking is, what do you guys think the best video length for a new lets player is? 10 minutes? 15? Is it okay to make some 25+ minutes? Leave a comment below. I could really use your advice. Thanks!
for me, less than 8 minutes

When we do episodes, we start a timer. We start an episode with a welcome, and then around 9.30 - 10 mins we end the episode with a promise of another, then our outro. It depends on the episode, but mostly ours are around a consistent 10 mins, sometimes 15. We post twice a day, so 20 mins a day someone might watch us. I think asking subscribers to spend any longer than that a day watching your content is maybe a stretch, and some people don't have that attention span, unless of course your content is really really funny/entertaining.

It really depends on what it is. One of my favourite YouTubers consistently makes very long videos, maybe a half hour or so, and they're entertaining from start to finish. I don't think there's anything wrong with making longer videos :) As a viewer, sometimes I want to watch shorter videos (so just save longer ones until later), and sometimes I'll do vice versa. :)

For me watching LPs it depends on the game and how often you post.

If they post daily, then I rather see 5-6 minute videos. If they post weekly then a 10-15 minute video I would sit through once a week lol.

It depends on the video content, if it is a cover (like most of my videos) then the video length would be dependent on the length of the cover, however, if it's something like a playthrough/LP/gaming videos, then generally shorter than 25 minutes would good. I think the only time it would be optimal for long videos is if you have an "engaging audience" meaning that the audience is going to watch most if not all of the content, otherwise, it is just a waste of 20 min+ of footage. So generally, I would go for more than a few minutes but keep it less than 10 unless the audience retention rate is higher than 65%.

Thanks for all the feed back guys. From what I'm getting so far, it seems like most of you think about 10-15 minutes is a good length for a Lets Play. Which is what I was thinking too. Again, thanks again for all your feed back!

I notice a lot of the more famous let's players try to keep it between 10-12 minutes, and I agree with this unless its a game your only going to play once or can beat in under 30 mins! for instance if you do let's plays for minecraft hunger game you might want to do the whole game in one video unless it exceeds 30 mins by more that 10 mins if that makes sense lol. you don't want the next episode to be super short! Also There is nothing wrong with cutting out slow parts or parts where your running back through game play that had already been gone through! Last if you have thirty minutes of game play you find to be funny I say upload it regardless, because ultimately there are no time limits!

Yup. That makes perfect sense. I think I might follow that pretty closely from now on. Just maybe do longer first videos and longer last videos. Do you think that'd be a good idea?
