Ohai guys!
The Good:
- Your branding is decent thus far. You have a solid name, a logo, art, and the channel very much gets across that you are a bunch of dudes who like playing video games and clowning around. The youtube channel I am a part of (Confidence Crew) is very much the same!
- So, taking a look at your channel on the first page, your into video does a good job introducing you guys. It shows amusing clips form certain games
- I am a Starbound fan. Used to play all the time. That much caught my attention.
- I enjoy the drawing/art you have of the three of you. I think it displays the both nerdy, yet out-of-the-box image you guys are going for.
- You guys have the synergy, and your social dynamic on the videos is entertaining! Funny. Goofy. Everything I like in a video game channel.
- If you are thinking of doing podcasts and short films, it seems like you guys would work well doing that. There is a lot of opportunity to score viewers if you do shorts, since it often provides better entertainment than doing just funny moments.
The Bad:
- Your tags. Your descriptions. They need to be filled out. ... When it comes to Youtubes search algorithm, it checks your titles for keywords first, then your descriptions, then your tags. Be sure to fill out a paragraphs worth of description for each video with words that would make searchable tags (EX: Starbound, Starbound gameplay, Starbound funny moments, Starbound stargate, Starbound mazebound quest)
- I can see there are some specific games that you play, but you could really use a broader selection of content. Its good that you have certain games you specialize in, but if you have a viewer that doesn't really play any of those games or doesn't follow them, then that kinda limits your audience. Alternatively, if you are going to specialize in specific games, really pump out more specific content concerning them.
- I get the concept behind your logo (the 3rd circle fragment), but it doesn't really pop. You might want to look at an upgrade at some point.
- I notice you guys are using custom thumbnails, but they could also be catchier. The text on some of them is kinda minimal. Now, if you want to see the opposite side of the spectrum, the channel I'm in often uses pretty grandiose thumbnails. The ones for my videos are somewhere in the middle; stylish, well designed, yet not overwheming. This part will require some photoshop knowledge.
The Needs Improvement:
- Seems like a redundant section, doesn't it? I mean, we can assume if something qualifies as 'Bad', then it needs improvement. Or is this like... the 'ugly' stuff that isn't bad, but is a little manic, a little off-color,... the bandit of the group. Always in it for the money, and a little crazy. Maybe some random points of advice.
- The intro to some of your videos seems a tad minimal. For instance, some of your Starbound videos has the art of the three of you splashed over it. Not saying its not a bad image, but it stays on a bit too long, and it could use some movement. IMHO
- In some of the more first-person games, it might be good to have all three of you record (provided you have the GPUs), and them mesh eachothers footage into one video (and maybe have a ribbon in the corner. Some of ours on our channel does this, and I think it looks professional.
- I am running in to this with our channel "Confidence Crew". We are a group of five people playing games both together and individually. A bunch of our videos are entertaining, but a good handful are random. Its just randomness and funny moments. We kinda realized at one point that doing only ad libbed gameplay footage wasn't cutting it; everyone and their grandma is doing it on Youtube right now. So, all I'm saying here is you guys could definitely benefit from a brainstorm session or two, and maybe come up with a plan with how to cover future content. If you only want to do gameplay though, that's fine. Its just a very saturated category.
I hope this review has some stuff that could help ya out!
I went ahead and subbed ya, since it looks like you guys are off to a great start.
Feel free to throw a review back. =D
