Speed up render?

So I'm recently doing much more animation work for my uploads, but rendering times have grown exponentially! I mean, now rendering a 20 second intro for my upcoming tutorial series, which takes 5+ hours total.

I run a AMD Phenom II six-core at 2,9 Ghz, will upgrading my ram memory from 6GB to 16GB speed up rendering?

adding ram will definitely help. Also try different formats to render (mp4 vs avi vs wmv) what program are you rendering out of?

Yeah really just need to mess around with your render settings I can render a video of about 9 mins in about 45 mins at 30 frames

H.264 should be a quick render since the file size is smaller. ^gisikw gave some good points. Other than that unless you are upgrading ram you'll have to live with it :( Maybe do overnight renders? Make sure to ram preview fully and watch it over and make sure that there are not any little issues that cause you a headache of rerendering

First off, be sure your scratch disk is on a separate drive from your boot disk. Secondly, render to a third drive. Thirdly, RAM.

Check.

True me too, but this one is highly animated with 3d particles, animated to the music, camera movement, audio spectrums and more little animations, so that's why it's taking so long. :p

I think I'll upgrade to a new motherboard that supports DDR3 1866 ram, then buy a 16 GB ram in 2 modules, so I can upgrade to 32 if needed, and that motherboard will support a better video card than my current motherboard.

Kev kev kev!!! do you mean partitions or physical disks? I have serious render time issues too :(

In a perfect world, different disks. Though barring that, partitioning should help a bit if you're running off the boot drive. Remember that every single read/write to a particular partition gets put into a queue, so when you're rendering, the queue would look like: [windows thing, background app something, render, windows thing, windows thing, something else, render]...

When you request something from a separate partition, you get a separate queue. Though you're still going to be constrained by disk speed.

If you can, setup an SSD drive for your swap. After each project completion, clean your cache files. Increase RAM especially if you are using a lot of layers with Element 3D, particle effects, motion blur or overlay effects. You can also precomp layers and per-render and re-import to minimize layer rendering.
