So, I wanna make a romance / light hearted comedy

I'm not sure weather to make episodes of it, or possibly a short film, but I want to make even the manliest of men cry at it.

Like, have any of you have seen the anime Clannad, and Clannad After Story?
If so and if not, I want my movie to grab people and rip them inside out and make them cry but then in the end it'll be happy and everyone will still be crying because the happiness came out of the sadness. Just wanna get some ideas.

My idea is a college setting, not much cursing, nothing sexual, there can be violence, but nothing that would hurt the girls, and somewhat Sci-fi/ Mystical / Supernatural.

That would be a good idea. I have a romantic drama series that will start in March, and mine is also light hearted.

If you're going to make it a series you'll have to plan it all out before you make it anyway, so a short film would probably be less work and slightly easier, and it also means that people get access to the full thing without actually having to click anything else (People who watch YouTube are lazy). If you spoon feed them the entire thing more people will watch the entire thing. But it also depends on how long it's going to be.

I'm not into the genre really, but if you can sort the plot out right, it sounds like a strong idea, but don't try to overload it with too many genres. Try to keep it to maybe 2 or 3 genres. A lot series/short films on YouTube contain the drama genre, so that means you only get one or two choices, and from what you've said, that is the choice of comedy, romance or sci-fi. And if your initial idea is a comedy romance, it's probably better sticking to those. Don't over load it.

Best of luck :)

Clannad After Story

Think about what made those two so great. It was so many different genres combined into one, but they did it so fluidly. I think the key to it was taking every day situations and adding an in-depthness that you can't get from other shows. And also adding exaggerations to the situations and drama that occured (For example: The girl bully was super over powered)
